mrth0201,

Stay away from the typical Valentines stuff like chocolates and roses. Roses are way too overpriced.

You said you don't want to spend a lot so that pretty much excludes jewelry.

I don't know about your gal, but if she's like mine then she'd love it if you cooked dinner and set a nice table with candles and that fancy stuff. Get a bottle of her favorite wine and give her a card and a small (but creative) gift.

Women just love anything that you put a lot of effort into, it doens't have to cost a lot. Maybe give her a massage afterward....

Give her the day off. They like that. Be her personal servent. Dinner, draw her a nice hot bubble bath and just pamper her. REMEMBER A CARD!!! a mushy one is best. All in all it does work because eventually by the end of the night(after a bottle of nice wine) she will be snuggled up and then Daddy gets his Valentine. Best thing is you might not have to beg to go fishing the next time. Just my two cents worth anyway.

Don't tell my wife this, but what a stupid holiday! blush.gif OK, I'm a little bitter because she doesn't want me to go to URL in a couple weeks. Oh well, it will save me a little money because she ain't getting nothing this year. tongue.gif

Do what you did in school when you were like 6 years old...get out the construction paper, glue, crayons, etc and make her a card. Seriously, it sounds stupid and cheesy but for some reason the gals love it.

I bought my wife a week-end without me. There is a retreat resort near Pine City that she likes to go to. So next weekend she will spend Thur thru Sun there. Her quote was; "this is the most thoughtful gift you've ever given me." I reminded her about the caret and half diamond she has on her finger. She said that was a good one as well.

I'm not sure what the rest of the wives that read this will think but I don't celebrate V-Day or the Wisconsin equivalent called "sweetest day". I send my wife flowers on (fill in the non important day of the week here) "JUST BECAUSE. Her co workers and classmates are so jealous of her because she gets flowers at work all the time and they don't. This makes her feel special MANY times a year rather than on a day where it's expected. I know I might be a nasty person for not getting anything on Vday for my wife but she knows how I think and she agrees. So for valentines day we greet eachother with a hug and a kiss and say the words and that's about it. But then perhaps a week or a month later then the flowers will arrive at work for her and perhaps a one hour massage. WORKS EVERY TIME!!! Good luck boys.

Here's what ya do...Find yourself a woman like my wife. She thinks Valentines day is a big waste of money, so we don't do a darn thing for it! It's wonderful!

I found out years ago that flowers are worth their weight in gold!!! I've been married 18 years and have gotten her flowers every Valentines Day, delivered at work so that her co-workers are envious. Not roses though (that would be like buying a snowblower after a snowstorm), just a nice bouquet. Then I'll buy flowers once or twice a year just to surprise her. For Valentines Day, I'll also get her a nice, mushy card, and we'll plan a nice meal together, either at home or out somewhere.

Wow--I had no idea there were so many "Romantics" on this site! It must be the mother of necessity that makes an outdoorsman a true romantic!

I gave my wife last Saturday off and I took the kids; I finished the second coat of new paint on the entry hallway up the stairs and down to the end of the hallway on the 2nd floor yesterday--man do they love it when you "fluff" their nest!

I finished her off last night with her favorite Pheasant Marsala dinner at home. I now have my pass signed for the next and last hard water run on the 25th.
