Call in this yote tonight! I am relatively new to this hand call stuff, but I can already say it's a rush!! This female came in after 20 minutes of calling. I was using a Primos "Lil Dog".

This is kinda funny, my daughter was screaming "Let me see it dad!" I brought it to the step since they were in their pj's...They both were kinda skeptical grin.gif

There is a local fur buyer I'll take it to. A guy can usually get a few bucks for a good pelt. I am thinking about getting another tube tan done with this one.

Lawdog-

You are very lucky to live in Luverne. The traffic in Mag and Kan is down right rediculous. To avoid this, I did my christmas shopping in Kenneth this year. BTW-Wentworth just added a cute little strip mall.

I guess I don't understand why you would want to kill a coyote if your not going to eat it. Just seems like a waste. I'm not trying to be a jerk or any thing I just can't see killing some thing, for nothing.

They are a predators and definitely NOT under control, government (of any kind) does nothing about it (in this state).

Season is always open, and even this way they are still growing faster than they get killed. It is also proven they are a threat to livestock and in some cases people.

They are one of the main carriers of rabies and other diseases.

There is no state in the midwest where they are not allowed to be shot, I don't know about east and west coast, but I don't think they are far off.

i have shot so few I mount everyone i get (just tanned for the wall, my total is 1) anyway, a friend of mine got one one day and I thought the meat didn't look to bad for some jerky. Let me tell you, they are NOT for eating. YUCK.

ScumFrog,

I don't think you are a jerk for asking for asking an honest question. Although I am not an expert, I would be happy to try and explain why people hunt coyotes.

First, don't feel sorry for the coyote. It is basically at the top of the food chain in our area. Each year coyotes are responsible for killing thousands of pheasants and game eggs. Farmers and ranchers also have problems with coyotes killing young livestock. Coyotes also prey on cats and red fox.

Right now the coyote population is thriving to the point where they are starting to be killed off naturally by the way of mange. Mange is a mite that basically eats away at the animals coat. It is a slow, dismal death sentence for a coyote. They slowly starve to death or die of exposure with this disease.

I don't feel bad for not eating it. It's just the opposite of traditional hunting. Instead of taking the animal for what is on the inside (meat), predator hunters take the for what's on the outside (fur), just as fur bearers have been doing for thousands of years.

I hope I cleared things up for you SF.

Thanks

seriously SCUMFROG your welcome to your opinion on the matter and your welcome to express it. I, for one, am glad people do it. First off, I firmly believe if nobody wanted to do it, someone would find a way to make it illegal and whether or not you want to hunt one, i think we should be free to. secondly, they are problematic with dairy and beef guys and other farming. They spread alot of disease and can cause problems with your regular pets as well. And thirdly, if you are a bird hunter, there is nothing better you can do in the off season for baby ducks and ringnecks.

Fur is one the worlds few only re-newable natural resources.

I think everybody should have a fur garment (make sure its wild fur).

If you want more birds to hunt, buy a fur coat. Demand that it's made from wild fur!

I think it's time to get back to the topic of this thread which is....Rost got a coyote.

Let's don't go into silly debates or this thread will be erased and locked.

We all have opinions and we are free to express them, but this is not the right thread to do so.

Thanks guys....

I'm sorry if I ruffled some feathers, but I'm new to all this hunting stuff and wanted to know why. If they carry diseases and are killing livestock then I'd see were taking them is a good thing.

Again I'm sorry if I offended any one..
