What's your thoughts on this idea!!I think there should be a law if you're going to use a generator, you should have to keep it within 10 ft. of your icehouse! You don't want to listen to it, I sure the hell don't!What gets me are the people that run 50-100ft cords and set them near my house!I'm just venting because last night a guy did this, I got so [PoorWordUsage]ed at midnight I went home!! That or get a Honda!! Later Jigster

I would have just went outside and unplugged it right as i was leaving, well no probally not, but I can't stand people like that either, someone did it to us on Red lake last year for 2 whole days and nights.

side note- I see you are from hanksa, do you have your house on the lake? hows the fishing been?

so what about the guy that sets up right next to you when you were the first person there is that still unacceptable? That happened to a guy I know up on Red he was the only one in the area and by the time the night ended he had half a dozen houses by his and they got mad at him for running his generator at night. Now is that right for those guys to comlain? I just bought a generator (not a honda) I have ran it outside my house and it is pretty quite inside the house. i plan on setting it in the back of the truck with tail gate up should help with the noise??

Not Right! The people that moved in on the guy, knowing full well about the generator, and then complaining about the sound?

Same type of people who buy a house near an airport and then complain that they can hear airplanes.

I have a generator too at my sleeper on Lake of the Woods. I cant tell you how many times that we were all alone and then someone pulled up later and complained when we started it. Its pretty quiet too. For those of you in the reverse situation, any chance that you tried useing diplomacy rather than sabotage etc..? Sometimes people are really too dumb to even think about the other guy. I understand, but try asking to them to move it if you were there first and explain that. He may not even realize that this is a bother to you.

We dont need anymore laws govering us, we all have enough!

I agree don't get all huffy puffy about this untill you talk to the guy that is running the generator and he tells you to buzz off then sabatoge grin.gif Just kidding!! but I can tell ya that if you waited till they went to sleep you can easily walk over and simply turn it off and they probably wont notice untill they wake up in a cold fish house. Just like running out of gas in the middle of the night no one wants to go out in the cold and refill the gen. usually we fall back asleep untill you simply can't take it but that takes awhile!! grin.gif

A certain percentage of these people are just stupid, and if you politely mention your concern there is a chance for positive results.

Last summer at horse camp we had this situation, guy ran his generator all day and into the evening. Someone walked by the stupid guy's campsite and, in a loud voice, not confrontational, questioned the necessity of the generator. The stupid guy took the hint and shut off the gererator.

Immediatley the whole camp broke into applause, end of problem for the week end.

So, in everyones opinion, what's the ettiquite on running a generator? I will have to run my generator sometime this weekend to charge up my two deep cycles. I am staying for 2 1/2 days and my batteries will need to be charged once, if not twice in that time. I don't want to ruin anyone else's experience and still want to enjoy mine. Is that possible or is there just going to be someone mad no matter what I do? You know the, "You can please some people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time"... type of a thing.

I would think it would be safe to run it during the period of time when everyone is roaring around the lake on snowmobiles. This way they will probably be concentrating more on them than you. I guess I would rather listen to a generator running than a diesel pickup and I would rather listen to the pickup rather than a snowmobile going fast. I really don't think someone charging batteries with a small generator would bother me at all. It really needs to be done. wink.gif
