Mamohr, this is exactly what I have been looking for. i have two 3 foot rope lights. the so called bright ones. I have a otter lodge and I realize it is a big area. but I was hoping that i would get more light out of them. I will check this HSOforum out that you listed. I think I will order me up one or two.

Nice job btw on running the wires on the inside of the frame it looks good.

captkev- I raided your honeyhole on my way back to ND last week but they only had one of the ovals left. The other round ones were blue. Lots of empty shelves there. I was hoping for a pair to try but only got the one. I looked all over on the web to see if I could find the manufacturer but they are pretty cheap lights so I'm sure it's some low budget outfit.

I don't like to use the word "CHEAP", cheap to me is something that you buy and it only works for one day or is broken before you get to use it, the oval one like you purchaced ran in my F/T Scout for two years with out one problem, that isn't cheap! thats dependable! wink.gif

Mnfishinguy, I followed your move and ordered a few of the bike lights. It does look like a good thing for me also. I like the fact that you can use only one if ya want,(I plan on using 2 in my house.) it's not hard-wired in. So I will be able to use them in either of my fish houses. The shipping is a bit high, but I guess it does come from the other side of the world! wink.gif Post on here when you get yours. I can't wait to get these.

Indy and Castmaster. I bought my LED Dot-it lights at a Super Walmart in Ankeny IA. They were the only place I could find them. As far as how much light they give off...I wear a 3LED head lamp and put these on the velcro on the poles of my shack or on the window velcro so as to shine them on the tips of my poles. They give off plenty of light for me. As far as light goes in a shack, I like to keep in at a minimum unless I'm rerigging or packing up. This is why I keep the lights on the sides of the shack so they don't shine down on the ice. I believe in clear water with no snow cover fish will spook (especially walleyes) with bright shack lights. I could be wrong but just my 2 cents. Good fishing.

Well, I mounted the 12-LED oval that captkev has and ordered two more so I should be set. So far I crudely wired it in until I get the other two and then I'll finish off the installation. One of these puts down a decent amount of light and two should do quite well.

Rod,

i personally like the ability to really light my shack up. thats the reason the lights kev posted look so good. can mount 4 at different places with the ability to turn each on and off as needed.

i also have a plywood floor in my otter lodge which keeps light from getting through the ice. although i sometimes wonder whether its harmful or helpful to have that light shine through. i have fished with guys on mille lacs that hang laterns or other lights off the sides of the boat (have seen a native or 2 actually using the lights that float on top of the water) during open water season and theresults outshined other boats around us that werent using any lights. if you think about it, there is probably a reason the submersible lights are outlawed in MN.

I hear ya castmaster. I've used a submergable light before with negative results. I believe the light attracks the plankton which inturn attracts the baitfish, which inturn attracts the panfish....which may or may not take all night. We'll never know for sure if the light is a negative or a positive. More than likely it's both in certain circumstances. I guess if something helps your confidence, that for sure is a good tool. So I'm going to keep my shack dimly lit while jigging for walleyes. If you think you're doing it right, you are, and that's what helps you catch fish.

CaptKev - I stopped at Stockmens today and they looked at me like I was cracked! Never heard of such lights. Even talked with two people who were suppose to be in the know. They sent me across the street to Peterbuilt and they didn't know of any either. Can you let us know where you are getting these lights please?

Thanks.

Thanks!!! I went to Fleet Farm tonight, talked with a clerk, who called the Auto Dept. manager and they both said they didn't have them. Looked by the auto fuses and switches...there they were...just like you said! Picked up 6 of them. I ordered (2) Eagle eye high power 5 LED, (2) 24 matrix and (2) 30 LED from Superlumination for $72.00 including shipping. I think I'm going to use a 2" long piece of 3/4" rubber heater hose. Epoxy the socket in. Radius cut the end that seats against the bar then velcro to attach it. )=|::

The lights that captkev originally found (thanks for the tip!) are made by United Pacific, not Union Pacific. Do a web search and you'll find a few places online that sell them. I bought one (last one) at the truck stop in Sauk Centre and ordered a couple more online. Roughly the same price.

Last night was the first time I got to try out the one I have mounted and it did a decent job. Two should be plenty for an Otter. Not overly bright, but enough to give adequate light.

I know I'm a little late on this subject but I thought I would add my simple and cheap idea. I didn't read all of the posts so I'm sorry if I'm repeating an idea.

All I did was this: I went to WALMART and picked up 2 small foglights (14 bucks) for a truck, I zip-tied one light(i keep the other for a spare) to my YUKON support pole above me, ran the wires (zip-tied also) down to sled, connected the wires with alligator clips to a deep cycle battery. It's bright as TARGET in there, the deep cycle battery lasts forever and the lights are meant to take some punishment as well. The zip ties allow you to pivot your light.

I ordered 3 24 LED aquarium/dome/utility lights for $36 including shipping and insurance. They are supposed to be waterproof, have connection leads, and come with a peel and stick backing or you can attach with two screws. I'll have to wait and see what they are like, I'll probably try and use velco to attach to the poles.

MetroJoe,

Here is the picture of what those bike lites look like. I ordered 3 off HSOList the other day. I looked at the description, and it never listed a brand name. They are coming over from Hong Kong,so the shipping is going to be higher. Not sure how much till the bill comes in american currency. grin.gif Just do a search for LED bike lights and they should pop up, otherwise leave me your e-mail and I will send it later tonight.

I'm just replying to the thred here...

All of the info is here in this posting, I am not makeing any money off of the lights, just helping people get them, it was a thought to possably get them in bulk to make some money but I've decided not to, If you read this topic from the begining, you will find the name of the place I get them from and you can get them off the shelf like I do, all of the info is allready here, even the name of the town and how to walk threw the store and what shelf they are on.

I ordered one and it came to $14.62 in US dollars. I think there was a small break in the shipping if you ordered more than one. IF it works as good as it should with 28 LEDs I'm sure I'll be ordering more. Any guesses on when it gets here?

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
