This winter is going to be an exciting one!

As mentioned above, we will be having two competitive events this winter. One at Winnie and the other on Lake of the Woods. We decided to have these events to cater to those who enjoy the challenge and competition aspect of things, yet still want to have an enjoyable experience and learn a thing or two. They are intended for everyone of all levels. Whether you're a beginner or not, you're welcome to enter the I.C.E. Series events and compete for the prizes. Maybe even try to find a partner here on FM that would like to team-up. We picked Lake Winnibigoshish and Lake of the Woods because they are both top-notch winter destinations that offer a lot of options for ice anglers. The scenery is outstanding and they both provide an excellent opportunity to turn the weekend into a nice vacation.

A lot of ice anglers plan trips to Winnie and Lake of the Woods every winter, so we've tried to establish destinations that allow you get the most out of your trip this winter. You can spend a day at the I.C.E. Series event, either competing for the prizes or just fishing for fun, then you can spend a day using the tips and techniques to catch more fish. Our I.C.E. Series ProStaff will be there all weekend to join in on the fun, and we usually stick around on Sunday and fish with those who want to hit the ice. We'll aso be around the resort in the evenings to talk and tell fish stories over some food, drinks and relaxation. Everyone is welcome to join us for the I.C.E. Series events whether they are competing or not. You're all part of the IceLeader family smile.gif

Keep in mind, there will also be prize drawings for everyone in attendance, whether you competed or not. Price to enter the prize drawing = FREE!! You just have to be there to register in the morning before the event and then attend the weigh-in once the event is over.

In addition to the I.C.E. Series events, we will also have Get Togethers and informal meetings like we had last winter. These will give anglers a chance to meet up and share ideas, fishing time and stories. We usually have several FM ProStaff at several of the events who are there to share tips and techniques, as well as show people where the fish are. You can kind of look at it as a "free" guide trip for anyone who attends the event. The "Cool Cats" and the "Backwater Brawl" are two examples from last winter. Usually the person hosting the event has some extensive knowledge about the particalur body of water and they consider it part of their job to make sure people get on a few fish. And from my experience with these and the ones that I attended last winter, a lot of fish are usually caught throughout the day too. Overall, they are a lot of fun and it's a great opportunity to meet other fishing diehards and put a face to a few of the names that we see here on FM everyday. I really enjoy the Get Togethers.

Also keep an eye out for informal Get Togethers on lakes in your area. These usually spring up last minute. It's those, "Who wants to fish on Saturday?" type of get togethers. There is usually one every week somewhere or another. Sometimes they are more thought out, and might be mentioned a few weeks prior. These type of get togethers are also a lot of fun, and I've hosted a few in the past as well. Just another opportunity that allows people to meet up and enjoy the great sport of fishing.

I'll be at both the I.C.E. Series events this winter helping out and fishing with anyone who wants to hit the ice. I had a great time last winter up on Lake Winnibigoshish chasing perch with fellow anglers during the day, and then spending time with everyone back at Denny's Resort in their lounge in the evenings. It's always a great event to kick-off the ice season!

I also plan on attending as many of the Get Togethers as I can. If I can make, I'll be there!!

The winter is fast approaching. Ice is on the way!! smile.gif

Good Fishin,

Matt Johnson

A lot of the IceLeaders Pro Staff and FishingMinnesota Pro Staff plan to be there to help out anglers just like last year.

If you haven't attended one you should try it. From beginning to experienced ice angler we hope to help you catch more fish with what you take away from these events.

Bring your family and friends. You and yours will be glad you did (tailgating knowledge can be useful).

Our focus is on ice fishing and having fun at the leading edge.

Hope you are in on it there with us. smile.gif

I had a great time at the winnie event last year and will more than likely show up again this year.

I'd really like to see another event at Rush lake. We had a great day on the ice. I think everyone that attended did as well. I would really like to see a get together, official or unofficial, for this lake again this year. Any thoughts Matt?

i have a question. at the ice series tournements is it just a whole lake that is open for fishing andyoujust make it back for the weigh ins. I have just started to going to some rural tourneys down here and they have pre drilled holes, with a cleard off section of ice. So i am under the idea that you get a whole lake to fish and then just make it back for the weigh ins?? is that right??

Correct, you are free to fish any spot that you can get to from where headquarters is located. You will need to check-in at headquarters in the morning prior to the event, then you'll be able to go from there once the event starts.

There will not be a designated area that everyone has to stay in.

You also cannot leave the ice and cross land in order to get to a spot. This means you can't leave the ice at one access and then re-enter again at another access, or you can't drive over land to reach a different section of the lake.

And if there are obvious hazard areas then we will limit you from those areas as well, that's if that situation arises. For example, last winter when out on Rush Lake we limited everyone to only West Rush, because the channel connecting West Rush with East Rush was unsafe for driving.

And there will be no pre-drilled holes, that's all on you smile.gif

Saturday is the day! I'll be at Denny's on Friday evening if anyone is looking to talk a little fishing, whether it be about Lake Winni or whatever (I also like to talk about panfish on different lakes too grin.gif).

See everyone this weekend!

    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
