New State Record Bass!

Daze Off

Recommended Posts

Heard from a reliable source that the new state record largemouth was caught today - weighing 8 lbs 15 oz. Was certified by DNR.

Certainly did not come from Lake Marion where I was fishing....

Wow.. that small lake (mentioned on the news) is going to be hit hard isn't it? I would guess with the warming climate, records will be caught more often than ever before.. considering the size bass get to in state south of us.

Warming climate? Hmmmm. Another global warming theory - massive infant eating bass. Sorry, I couldn't resist poking fun at the global warming stuff.

My guess is an 8-15 has been swimming somewhere in the state for some time in several different lakes. Even in a small lake, think how many places that fish could live. It didn't get that big being hooked every other week.

And, yes. Lake Auburn is going to be hammered. An 8-15 makes you take notice of the lake, but the guy mentioned they caught some 6 to 7 pound fish the day before. Some as in several, huh? I guess they asked for it.

I know my eyesight is perfect but isn't that a photo of a smallmouth bass on the cover of the Star-Tribune?

You know I thought the same thing. I had only read the article before I made my prior post, but later over lunch saw the front page and got a good laugh at that one. I'm pretty sure its a smallmouth as well.

I was VERY dissapointed that Kare-11 news didn't make any mention of it either yesterday (the actual day) or today (the day after)... to me this should be the lead story... happens so rarely..

[by the way.. I mentioned "warming climate" (a well known fact) and not "global warming" (a term associated with the 'possible' human impact on the warming climate)... so no debate or comments needed in this case! smile.gif ]

I've heard that bass actually weight more in late fall when they are packin on the lbs then they do in the spring???? I would assume thats true since this record and the last were both caught in Oct. That thing looks like it just ate a bowling ball!
