Rost
Every time I find myself in the fishing section, I find myself grabbing a few crankbaits. I tallied them up the other day and came up with just over 200 shad raps, countdowns, lil' rippers, Salmos,Wally Divers and some misc. To some this might be enough, but I feel like my selection is still very limited! It is starting to become an addiction! I have a few buddies that are slightly in sane. One has nearly 4000 cranks (I saw them with my own eyes!)!!! Another buddy just ordered 500 shad raps to add to his current selection of about 3000. Cabelas called and asked him if the order was correct Makes a guy wonder if it ever stops. I doubt it will. How many cranks does it take for you? jcfishr
you might try making a pile of the ones that have actually caught a fish.
Random guy
I have a fetish for whitefish colored jerkbaits, over thirty in whitefish patterns . My musky lures have taken over the interior of my garage, I'm scared I'm going to trip and get tangled with the wall and never get loose.
FishinBill
Everytime I add space in the form of a new tackle box, it quickly gets filled to the brim and in need of more storage. I just don't know how I do it!
fishlakeman
Yea, sounds like me, Got around 150 cranks, use probably 40 of em regularly. While were on the subject, I'd recommend taking pictures of your invetory for insurance purposes. My uncle and cousin had their 4 tackle boxes stolen and the insurance adjuster from Louisana had a hard time believing that they had $2,900 (they don't muskie fish) worth of tackle between the 2. I have layed out all my tackle and took pictures. 500 shad raps? Thats the most rediculous thing I've ever heard. Why the h*ll would someone need 500 shad raps? He must be a guide? Tournament fisherman? Both? Still seems like overkill 500 rapalas wouldn't be out of the ordinary, but just shad raps, wow But I guess you can never have too much tackle now can you
Lost
I have a problem with clearance prices. I just gotta get my hands on those items! I don't have any more room to store crank baits. Maybe I should stop buying and start using. Figure out how to use these contraptions. Haha.
Northlander
I may have 200 sticks/cranks. I also cant see how anyone would need 500 more on top of 4000. I may only catch fish on 30-40 different ones a year.
Tom Linderholm
Yeah but Steve remember, Sometimes you may need 6+ of each pattern I am in the neighborhood of 200 Stickbaits and haven't nearly come close to having all the colors I would like. 4000 I could see if you had 2-3 of each color. Some baits are irreplaceable once they get hot. I blame it all on Marine General and other stores with their custom colors they keep throwing out. Its like a kid in the candy store when you get the open water jones in the middle of winter.
Rost
The reason he bought 500 Shad Raps is for tax reasons. He won $100,000 at a tourney. So his accountant suggested that he get some "fishing expenses" fast. So, he bought enough shad raps to last him a few years . My other friend who owns almost 4,000 cranks admits that he has been collecting them for 25 years. Still, it is a cool sight to see 6 Cabelas (giant bags) containing 12 trays of crankbaits stuffed to the top!
Muskyfreak131
Well guys we all need a "supposedly" bad habit don't we? At the last count I Had 225 crank baits so im as bad. Gotta have the right size, color, shape , etc and all lol But when it really counts theres probably on 30- 35 that i use alot. But now my other addiction is musky lures so I know how Jon Feels. Fishing is what keeps me keep the little sanity that i do have left. Good Luck and fishin' to ya allEJWork is the wasted time between fishing

icehousebob
A few years ago, there was a crank bait that was Walleye magic on Big Stone Lake. It was a Hellcat in a color called strawberry blonde, that had been discontinued. Well, the factory brought it back into limited production just for the Big Stone Lake area. My brother-in-law, Jim, went into a gas, bait, and tackle place and asked whether they had any. The girl at the counter said,"Yeah, we got in five dozen this morning." Jim said," I'll take them." The girl said," I SAID, there are five dozen." And Jim said,"AND I SAID, I'll take them." He split them between his brother and a couple of friends and sold enough at a premium to get a bunch for himself for free.
Dave B
I remember seeing that a RCL pro went through 150 cranks a day fishing on Pool 3 of the Miss during the Championship. 4 lines, trolling rip rap, one would tie cranks all day, the other would reel in fish. I think it was Jerry something from Stillwater/Hudson.

ZOKU
Ummm... yeah... How in the heck does one find room for nearly 4,000 crankbaits let alone the rest of his tackle and gear? Insane. I have six Plano storage boxes with various crankbaits, spoons, and bucktails and a Shimano box full of buzzbaits and spinnerbaits all of this excludes the bags of plastic worms, creatures and grubs I have - and my fiance has already begun threatening me. icehousebob
I'm not sure if they still make Hellcats. The last place I saw them was in baitshops around Big Stone Lake, and that was a while ago. I had five of them before the boys played LETS RAID DAD'S TACKLE BOX. I have one left.
Borch
Well let me see.... I have two hanging crank boxes that are full(Short baits and stick baits)each hold 128 baits. I have another 45 stashed in my other two tackle boxes just for when I'm fishing in someone else boat and don't have room for all my crank boxes. Then there's the other 40 baits I have in rerserve of favorite styles and patterns. So that's around 340 cranks. Do I use them all? Well not all at once! But I get somewhere between 180 and 200 of them in the water each year. There's only 6 or so that haven't seen the water that are actually in my tackle boxes(most of these are new baits). I've gone as far as having lures custom painted in colors that are hot on specific lakes and not available by the manufacturer in the styles I like. There are times where these bait have put all the fish on the boat. Not usually, but it does happen. BTW, I'm not an addict. I'm an enthusiast! bigeyes
Wow thousands of cranks, thats rediculous. I made a decision not to count mine but would say it is less than 300 and let me tell ya that is enough of a pain in the arse! I think I have 11 boxes and yes I too have reserves I keep in packaging at home. Some of my cranks have never seen water and I bet I could pick 20 good ones and be happy, but I too buy more. I think most of them catch more fisherman than fish. Sometimes I wish for the days when I kept it more simple.
