Largemouth Bass '05

Recommended Posts

I cant believe i was wearing my shades at night! I realized it when we got to the landing! I took them off and was like man what a dork! I had them on so long i forgot about them! Gotta have that polarization! that boat will catch as many (in most cases more) fish as the big boys. You cant buy big fish... just a more comfortable ride. That boat is about the biggest one you can get into that lake. the lake is a 3 mile ride from the nearest maintained road and the only way to get the boat there is in the back of the ford. I do have a bigger boat but it isnt anything fancy either though its a 18 foot star craft with an 85 horse on the back... I am in the process of replaceing the floor and all the wiring. All of these fish were between 20 1/4 and 21 1/4 inches. I didnt wieght them though. does any one have a good acurate scale that doesnt harm the fish? if so i would be interested in where to get one!!!! That lake also has awesome northern fishing in it! I posted pics of the northerns from the last trip out there in the northern section of photo sharing... If you ever see a little remote lake out in the middle of nowhere it might just be worth you time to try and get a boat in there!!!

Shortfatguy, It wouldn't hurt to crack a smile once in a while, make it look like you actually enjoy catching those monster bass. And as my mother would say...take that "shtuff" out of your lip. just kidding.

I do have one question for everyone. What is the best way to pose a bass, vertical or horizontal? I've always thought vertical, but the other night the guy taking pics at league suggested horizontal and said it was better because you can use your shoulders as a reference.

Looks like Ebiz has mastered the Matt Johnson pose!!! cool.gif

I would say from measuring his hand across the fingers and guessing it is about 3 inches that the fish is around 20 inches a nice fish indeed but not the monster it apears to be. shocked.gif

I promised a co-worker I'd take him out and get him into his first largemouth bass. I had to show him what spots are likely fish holders and how to really set the hook. He had some monster hook sets on sunnys and weeds grin.gif, but I told him to set the hook on anything that didn't feel right.

Nick finally got into his first largemouth an hour in, a little 1 lber. But it was his second bass ever that had us both grinning from ear to ear. I didn't get a measurement but I'd guess a little over 20", she came out at 5.3 lbs on the digital. Nice fish Nick!!

That's one nice fish your son is holding SledNeck! I think I've seen him in other pictures too. Didn't he catch some monster fish in the past too?

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
