Goals for this open water season

BDR

Recommended Posts

Last year I made a concious effort to expand my fishing. I think I reached those goals fairly well.

This year I am making fishing more rivers and streams for various species one of my main goals. My other top goal is to have as much fun as possible and also competing well in the statewide LETS tournies. Also getting the kids on the fish are also high on my list.

Last year I was lucky to get out a half dozen times. This years goals include getting out about 1-2 days a week, enjoying the outdoors and praying that future generations can enjoy what I have been lucky enough to experience.

The world is changing, and changing fast!

My one goal this year is to catch a 50" pike here on Superior... Three years ago, I believe I had one that big or bigger hooked, and to this day, I still have nightmares of watching that fish thrash boat side and toss my lure..

Other then that, just to have fun and refine some techniques out here on the big pond, and dab a bit more on some inland lakes...

Dan, although the master won't be there (BDR), I am going back up next week and there's a free spot in the boat!

Jim, one of my goals is to make it over to your neck of the woods for some trolling, and also for some smallies! I think BDR and I may swing over for that one. wink.gif

My true goals for the year are these in order.

Get that darn 50" muskie out of the way!

Get more kids into the great sport of fishing!

Do well in tourneys.

Last but not least, have as much fun on the water as possible!

My only real goal this year is to spend as much time fishing and camping with my wife and soon to be 3 year old as possible. He has already spent 38 days camping up on Kabetogama and Namakan to date, and we have another 18 planned for this summer. He caught his first fish last year (12" largemouth and small crappies) and hopefully he can add walleye and rainbow trout to the list this year smile.gif

Will be trying to refine/learn some lake superior tactics this summer also, first year with downriggers.

Hooks, we didn't get to fish, but does cleaning up the lake count?

My goals: Work on open water trolling, catch a 28"+ walleye, do well in tournaments, do more smallmouth fishing, fish more little lakes around home, get some GPS coordinates for next winter.

#1 goal stands far above all others: Get out on the water as much as possible! I'm purchasing a new boat this year and for the first time in 3 years I won't be purchasing rental property this summer. Hurray....... a summer to just have fun.

Other things I would like to accomplish (but they are a distant 2nd): Do more basss fishing, Do more Musky fishing, do more open water trolling for eyes.

37 days, 7 hrs, 53 min's, and 40 sec's left until Opener!

My goals are to get out fishing at least 4 times a week. Most importantly get out muskie fishing at least once a week. I am cutting back on softball leagues from 3 to 1 so that should give me two more nights a week to fish.

50"-Muskie

40"-Pike

30"-Walleye

As far as techniques go- do more daytime open water trolling for walleyes. Work on drop shotting for bass. Jig and plastic fishing for trophy pike and musky.

Another goal is to do well in the statewide LETS tournaments. It is our first year in it, so I don't know exactly what to expect.

If professional student were a career, I would have that title. I constantly have to be learning something or trying something new. Complacency tends to get to me after awhile.

So for this summer, I've set a few goals for myself also.

#1- Become a better Catfisherman.

Now that I think of it, that is what I primarily want to accomplish this summer. A few goals that go along with this are:

- Catch a 20lb plus Channel Cat

- Catch my first Flathead Cat

- Catch a 30lb plus Flathead Cat

- Learn some cat spots on the Mississippi & Minnesota Rivers

- Make the ultimate cat trip to the Red River at Lockport in Canada

#2- Learn & Fish the Minneapolis city lakes.

When I'm not chasing the cats, I want to drop the canoe & minnkota into the Minneapolis city lakes and catch some fish.

Simply to get out and enjoy God's creation through fishing, camping, and any other means at my disposal. Amazing how fast the ice goes out and summer appears... (although.. I do recall being stranded in Hutchinson from a snow storm in early May a few years back... you never know...)

My goal is to fish with the kids as much as possible this summer.. (all 3 of us have the whole summer off)... and to explore a few new lakes and the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers..

Another goal is to not keep a single fish... unless necessary... We have to keep the lakes alive for our kids.. and our kids kids.... (although.. since learning how to filet Northern boneless... might have to renig on that a few times)...

Another goal is to have my camera handy to grab more pix... didn't take very many last summer... I regret not taking my camera out more often.

Good boating and hunting to all. Respect one another and enjoy our lakes!
