I doubt Williams will be available, Roddy White is the next best WR, good size, 6-1 with 4.4 speed with Williamson right there (fastest WR in the draft-4.38!!). If not LB Derrick Johnson might be a good pick if they want defense. THere are some great D linemen but I wonder if we arent set there, we are young enough with Williams, Udeze and Scott. I would think pick a WR and at #18 you can still get a pretty good pick.??

Yes at #18 you can still get a very good pick... he's not on the above list, bu his name is Mark Clayton (WR) Oklahoma if we take a defensive player at #7 we will possibly go WR at #18 and this guy is supposed to be rock solid! If I had to guess I would say we take Mike Williams if he is available at #7 and if he's not then the LB stud out of the lonestar state followed up by Clayton at #18. I wouldn't be surprised if we drafted a big DT either like a Cody.....

It's too early to tell for sure where the players beyond like #5 at this point or so will end up being taken at, I would like to see D.J from Texas at #7, but we are pretty young and inexperienced at LB already, but if we can't pick up a free agent or trade for one, that might be our best choice. Then at #18 like you said, there are alot of good recievers available.

Looking at some of the most updated mock drafts the names I'm seeing falling into the #7 spot for the Vikes are Edwards, WR; Williams, WR; and Cody, DL. Still plenty early though as I'm sure some trades will be made within the top 6 picks, especially if someone lower really wants to target someone specifically.

  • we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators

I'd rather have Williamson-So. CA(WR) then Williams-USC (WR) anyway. A lot of good receivers in this draft. Unless we get Braylon Edwards we may want to go defense with #7, depending on the 1st 6 picks. Derrick Johnson-TX(LB) should be available at the #7 pick or Dan Cody-OK (DE) although a DE might be a wiser choice later.

The Vikes are set-up to confuse most teams on what they will do in the draft. They're in a good position to either fill need, take the best player available or trade for value.

I like Mike Williams (I have him #1 on my board . )at #7. Hopefully, the Vikings will have to choose betweeen Derrick Johnson, Mike Williams and Braylon Edwards.

At #18 I'm really starting to get the hots for Thomas Davis, the hard hitting safety from Georgia. If Antrel Rolle or Erasmus James are here, that would make for some nice choices.

From reports I've been hearing since the latest combine is it looks like Davis will probably be converted to a LB in the pros. I think his stock has fallen a bit recently. Earlier I was seeing him projected as high as ten, but now it is getting lower.

SI's mock draft board has the Vikes going for Mike Williams at our # 7 pick.

They also have the Vikes using there #18 pick to grab DE, Erasmus James from Wisconsin (Sr. 6-4 263lbs)

They have LB, Derrick Johnson, slipping down to the Lions at # 10.

Here's a topic for debate...If Johnson is still there at #7 do them draft him over Williams, OR should they try to cut a deal giving up there 18th, and maybe a second round to get Johnson? I doubt the latter of the 2 would work because they would have to deal with either Arizona #8(need RB), Washington #9, or the Lions #10. And who knows if the Vikes are crafty enough to pull it off. But it sure would be fun if they could. Maybe give Bennett, the 18th pick, and a late rounder???

Just throwing out some ideas, I like reading new thoughts on the Vikes!

Have a good one!

Just saw this info for you:

nfldraftcountdown.com Is reporting the following:

#5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Mike Williams, WR, USC

#7. Minnesota Vikings (f/OAK): Braylon Edwards, WR, Michigan

#12. San Diego Chargers (f/NYG): Derrick Johnson, OLB, Texas

If this is holding true, at that point the Vikes should make some phone calls and get Johnson. That would be HUGE!

Here's what they are saying for the 2nd and 3rd rounds

#49. Minnesota Vikings: Elton Brown, OG, Virginia

(A big, physical mauler who would be a perfect choice to replace David Dixon at right guard.)

#80. Minnesota Vikings: Dustin Colquitt, P, Tennessee

(The team has been looking for long-term answer at this position for years and this is it.)

I guess every site is goingto be a bit different and none ofit really matters, only what they do on draft day! These mocks just give us something to talk about!

The Mock draft I had posted was updated 3/16. (just so ya know it wasn't old)

Cybermuskie,

That is so true. The site I go to for Mock Drafts has 30+ sites for mock drafts. I try to visit the most currently updated ones on a regular basis just to get an idea of things. And you are right. Other than San Fran, which the consensus seems to be Aaron Rogers out of Cal everything else after that is a dump shoot as far is predicting. Though I've seen at least 1 draft that had the 49ers going WR. Everyone is different, but that is the fun in all of it. I'm sure things will change a lot between now and the pick of each team. Gotta love it uh?

Down to Earth,

I saw one off the wall mock today (out of Washington I think) that had the Vikes trading their 18th and 49th pick to Wash. for their 9th pick and getting a running back. So yeah, it's all up in the air.

Go Vikes!

Trade a running back or two. Ontario is one puff away from missing a year, Bennet is injury proneand may never regain form from his surgery, rumor has it Moore is a head case, Williams is no spring chicken. Get a good draft choice with a trade and maybe draft a RB with #7.

I think running back is very solid. Each on has the issues that Island Guy mentioned, but considering we have a full stable I think we are fine there. We need a star wide receiver much more than a running back. It would be nice to have a quality veteran linebacker to mix in with the youth there.

About the running back thing guys, I had just said that one off the wall site had their mock draft saying that. It wasn't a fact or anything. But really why not try to get rid of Smith or Bennett, and get a young horse that can punish people. Try to get another pick, what the heck. They aren't that impressive. If we stay with what we have we have to worry about drugs and injuries to worry about. Beside without a big play WR the defense can zone in on our running backs, and are they that good? By the 4th game you may be wishing they would have traded.

Just my .02 cents run with it!

The speculation I heard this morning is that if one of the stud runners is available they will take him and then trade Bennett to Ariz. for Boldin to solve the receiver issue. I could live with that scenario.

They better have that deal with AZ done when they make the pick if that's what they are thinking about doing. I don't think I'd still do it. We don't need to carry three-four good backs do we???
