OK,

For those of you looking for a good time, here's the basic informal plan:

We have a motel lined up in International Falls. It's the Rambler Motel (click here for more info) A few of us will check in Thursday night to fish Friday on Rainy Lake

They have a large back parking lot that they would be willing to let us set up a grill and chairs or whatever we need for a get together. If we do not feel like cooking there is a restaurant just down the street.

We will then Fish Rainy Lake on Saturday and LOW on Sunday at Morris Point(leaving I Falls atb 6am) with all the FMers that can make it.

The Rambler Motel has agreed to give FishingMinnesota members the following prices as long as they have rooms available:

Single Room : $30.00/night

Double 40.00/night

Triple 50.00/night

Prices are for the rooms not per person.

It is a great time to catch some larger pike and eyes so we could go fish Rainy Lake, come back and clean the fish that were kept for a meal. Jeff Beckwith has a couple of fryers and would be willing to fry the fish up there if this is something that is desired. Maybe make it a pot luck dinner thing for the rest of the meal.

Here's the agenda in short form:

1. Thursday 3/17 - Check in at the Rambler Motel

2. Friday 3/18 - Go out and Fish Rainy Lake and do a little scouting for those coming up Friday evening/Saturday Morning.

3. Saturday 3/19 - FMers go out and fish Rainy Lake. Fish Fry that evening or Restaurant, your choice.

4. Sunday 3/20 Leave the Rambler Motel at 5am to Long Point on Lake of the Woods. Fish there with any FMers who want to.

This is intended to just be informal and fun as well as getting a bunch of us together to share tactics, maybe spreading out to find fish and then trying to get all those there on fish.

I will be up there some time on Friday probably in the afternoon. I have a training class that I need to attend and not sure what time I can get out of there. But we will be up there as soon as we can.

As for where we are going once up there? I would like to just keep in touch with everyone for right now. I have a great contact up there that is going to keep us abreast of where the fish are. It may work out, if the fish are biting, to just fish Rainy Lake City on Firday because it would be easy for everyone to find. Last year we caught some pike there that were pretty nice and the evening bite can be good there for walleye. Then on Sat. morning we may start doing some reef hopping. This can be discussed Fri. night at the motel.

As mentioned before on Sunday morning we are planning to leave the motel and head for LOW. I am thinking of fishing the Long Point area as the fish should be in the rocks over there.

Also as mentioned before this is just an informal "fishing time". It should be a good time to just go out and have some fun. I am planning to fish some tip ups as well as do some jigging for some walleye. If we can we may try to find a Crappie or two also.

The question of sleds....if you have them I would figure on bringing them. At this time it is not known if you will need them but they may make it better for hitting some of the reefs.

Anyone that is interested can call the motel and make plans. Everyone is welcome to join.

Not a problem not coming up until Friday night. I will not be there until some time on Fri. either.

I would probably make reservations in the next day or two. I am not sure if there is anything else going on up there during that time or not.

As for the ice we just need to see what the weather does between now and then. I have drove on Rainy pretty late in the year. If not we can bring some sleds and/or ATV's.

This is an awesome idea!!

I've always wanted to fish Rainy & LOW is just hot come late ice.

Unfortunately, I'm always chasing the sloughsharks at very late ice up there so I don't get into the good walleye bite.

If anyone is into a tip-up watching festival, maybe you could join me? The fishing will be less intense but the conversation should be good. grin.gif

Here' a late March LOW Pike. 34" & 14 pounds. Not the biggest pike but a heck of a nice one. She, and many like her, are still swimming thanks to the slot!!

Traditionally, I've taken sleds to these spots. Some years a 4 wheel drive is OK. We'll have to see what March brings us for weather.

Cool..Cool..Cool..If this is about building community & having more fun, I'm in. Most likely with a friend. The weekend is cleared, will post again when the reservation is made.

Thanks Rick, I'll be sure to bring both Bucket & Chair to this one!

I like this rainy Lake, Ill be up Thurs staying in Rainer should be fun and meet some other Fm'rs. The sand bay bite is pretty good with a road off of Birch Point, so you should be able to drive a truck if the weather holds. grin.gif
