In my opinion, Vex, hands down! No comparision. I have an Aqua View that sits, but I would'nt be caught without my Vex in the winter.

The Aqua View requires two hands and since we only have two hands, that does'nt leave any for fishing. It's cool seeing the fish, but you can see them with the Vex to...just a little different in shape and color.

It has it's place and time, but for the most part, for my type of mobil fishing, the Vex is all I need.

Sounds like a complete majority here.

I was leaning more Vex, so you guys have pretty much nailed it for me. Thanks for the replies.

Now.. has anyone seen or used the Lowrance version of the Vex? I was looking online, and for about $100 more than an FL-18, this thing has got GPS, flasher, and more standard sonar. Also can be used from the boat on the soft water. I'm thinking with the extra tools it might be the way to go, but wonder about and LCD screen in the winter?

Hey Slick, I have the Lowrance X-67 Ice Machine and I aboslutly LOVE it! If you're not good with electronics or if you want some really simple to operate, this isn't the machine for you. This thing has multiple options for everything, it's a nerds dream! grin.gif You can go to Lowrances HSOforum and download a fully operational demo of the X-67.

I have a zercom color point. It is a few years old but works fine i would not fish without. Anyone else still have one? I heard that marcum bought zercom, is this what happened.

Do the new units have any option that my unit doesn't?

LCD screen on the lowarance unit shouldn't give you problems. As long as you keep it in your truck when you are traveling. The X-67 is a nice unit.

BUT if you have a GPS unit already, no need to have another one built into a fishfinder. Just my 2-cents.

I have the FL-18 and love the unit. I enjoy the zoom feature anytime I'm fishing towards the bottom 6 ft. of the water column.

Some day I just might own an LX-3!

The X-67 isn't a true LCD. It's screen is TFT screen which is different from a regular LCD screen. The TFT screen can with stand much much colder temps than a regular LCD screen can. The X-67 is rated to work down to -30 degrees. I've left my X-67 outside my house when its -10 and when I turn it on it doesn't skip a beat!

Medman & BRK -

Thanks for the replies on the Lowrance system...

I'm going to get the X-67. Since I don't have a GPS or flasher and it can be a summer unit too, so even at the higher price, I can't see passing it up.

As far as the "nerd's dream" thing, Medman... Let's put it this way. I make my living with avionics equipment like instruments, autopilot, fuel flow & engine monitoring systems... in other words, The more features, the more to play with!!!

Glad to see that someone else has had good luck with it, too.

Thanks again for all the replies, guys. Things like this are what has made FM a great place to be.

Went to Thorne's this afternoon & picked up the M68 Ice Machine... GPS... Sonar forever... flasher... they threw in a summer 'ducer, and I also snagged a few ratsos, shrimpos, & a new G-Loomis hat. cool.gifgrin.gifcool.gifgrin.gifcool.gif

Funny thing is, since I took the fiancee ring shopping before we went to the fishin' store, she didn'

t complain one bit when I dropped $500 +...

I can't wait to get this thing out on the ice!!!!!!!!! grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

Really good day, to say the least... grin.gif

Now I just gotta get through the manual some, get a handle on the features this thing's got. Like Medman said, it's a Technology nut's dream...

Think I'll be headin' to the Med Sea at least once this week. Gotta try it before the Forest Lake contest.

I have both, but I would get the Vex first, and then the Camera next!!! The Vex makes fishing alot easier and more productive, and the Camera is fun but kindof cheating also!!! grin.gif

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD FISHING!!!
