Mr. Heater Love...

I have the regular buddy for my Trap scout and big buddy for my X2. Love them both! Sunflower htr/cooker is still with in the rig just in case but mostly use it to cook on or heatup my stealth auger flighting if ice builds up on blades at all. If not windy out and really cold ill put a 1# on it and grab it for the hole hoppin. Leave on and take the edge off.Usually grab the shack if that cold though. Good products.

I have a regular Mr Buddy that I have used for many years. Love the fact I do not get any headaches from it like my Sunflower.

With my insulated Canvas craft portable, I can heat the portable up pretty easy even on the colder days with this heater.

Mine is to the point it needs to be replaced though as it is getting in tough shape.

Buddy is defin safer than the sun flower or cooker type.

A small amount of air flow is all you need. However, I've seen sunflowers Jimmy rigged in all kinds of ways bypassing the safety features. big buddies are unreliable imo. But my real old Mr heater its bullet proof.

I don't see any threads about sunflowers not working.

I remember a reels cold night fishing cats through the ice with a buddy last winter. He had a brand new Mr heater and i had my real old mr heater...his would not stay running.

I had my sunflower turn into a fireball on me. Does that count? Love my buddy heaters.

I should of been a little more specific with my comment (apologies). By safer I meant, a buddy is less likely to burn stuff. I have witnessed many accidents of the sun flower burning through shelters. Buddy's can to, but they don't expose themselves like a sunflower type. I agree that they are very reliable for heating, just need to be careful with em

You guys got that right! I used my sunflower to melt lead last spring. Spilt lead all over it in the process of course. From that point on, it would occasionally operate as a torch crazy And would let out a squeel that would make you immediately cover you ears. I Replaced it for a fraction of the price of the big buddy and the new one has 2 safety shutoffs... Running like a dream.

But ya'll are right. They pump out some heat and are much more likely to burn stuff if you don't give them their required space.

I used to use my big buddy only in my deer stand. However, after having kids, and having a couple pair of bibs burned on the sunflower (I'm a slow learner)I love my big buddy! Was out Monday in the -18 with wind and the big buddy on low kept me warm and comfortable all afternoon.

After having 6 different buddy heaters that didnt work worth a darn I bit the bullet again last yar and finally got a big buddy that has lasted and works when it should. Now that I have one working properly I wont go back to a sunflower. I do however bring the cooker along just in case the buddy dont want to work on any given day.

I finally bit the bullet and bought a Big Buddy this year after using a sunflower for the last 10 years. I like the Big Buddy more but it's definitely more finicky then the sunflower and much more fragile. That sunflower is bullet proof.

buddy heaters are the way to go...I have 2 small buddy heaters(one old one and one newer one) and the big buddy. I use the big buddy with a hose and a filter and have no problems with it unless the filter goes bad but it is a model from 2004-06. The little ones I have both work flawlessly. I always bring an extra little buddy heater with me no matter the conditions.

The thermocoupler is really the only weakness of the sunflower heater.

Love my buddy heater just learned the hard way that you NEED a filter if you use a hose and larger lp tank.

I have the big buddy and you don't need a filter with that if you buy the right type of hose (has built in low pressure regulator) and use the quick connector built into the heater on the left side right next to the heater's regulator. The hose costs about $10 then the straight through hose but you don't need to buy a filter every year like Mr. Heater recommends if going that route. Also, you have low pressure propane coming from the tank instead of high pressure into the heater which I have to think is safer.

I agree that the thermocoupler is the week point on the sunflower heaters. Fortunately those are cheap. I've replaced mine every few years from getting banged around in my truck and portable.
