Unruly nighcrawlers

I picked up a half flat of night crawlers a couple weeks ago.  My challenge is keeping them in the styrofoam flat.  They want to crawl out.  Keeping them in the frig.  I have changed bedding once, they have been feed twice, and I have them in a plastic shopping bag.  This is the first time in many years having this problem.

 

Any idea of why they are trying to escape or ideas on how to keep them from getting out?

Does your fridge smell like fish???,,, Maybe they are trying to stay alive with the smell of predators in the fridge ,,, Maybe put a bungie around the flat to close any gaps

I think I just need to fish more, use more crawlers, catch more fish.  I will over the next 6 weeks for so.  Thanks!!!!

 Strong instinct to migrate back to Canada I'd say.

If its dark they'll crawl out.

Put them in ice cream buckets with holes punched in the lids.

I bought crawlers by the half flat when we went to canada a couple weeks ago and they came in a styroform minnow bucket with holes in the lid. The lid seemed to fit tight and they never got out. You could always try that, it would not be very expensive.

I have about 100 left.  Hoping to use them up before the ice season.  The commercial flats do not have a cover and we slip them into a Menard shopping bag.  I have a 1/3 flat (or so) with a cover that is keeping them inside.

Nice, fat, very active crawlers on a lindy rig should drive the fish wild.

 

One of my most successful methods on inland lakes is a crawler with air injected into it on a Lindy.
