weighed 21.6. by the time i lugged him a couple hundred yards and up a steep hill, i thought he would be more than 25 :P

beard was 10.5, spurs 1.25 and 1 3/16

been nice to have better pic but couldnt get my hunt/fish camera to work when i got back to the truck :mad:

Ya, but you guys are killing them all now. Plus since I got one the last two years in a roll I told the wife I'd be a good boy and get some honey-dos done this spring! :(

Jeezs leech!!! Your scaring me! I am not even married yet but been in a relationship for over 5 years!! So your telling me not to harvest my game too early now?:D

Well if I would have drawn a tag for the date and area I put in for, all bets are off! :D

I just didn't draw this year so she gets a break! ;)

Great birds guys!!!

I had a case of too many birds in Nebraska.  Hens were just starting to nest and every time I had a gobbler working, a hen would come along and off he'd go.  The 5 gun guys in our group got 9 birds, which was cool.  All of them harvested their first turkey ever, including 2 kids 11 and 9 years old.

Time to re-group and get ready for round 2 here in MN.

i got a well deserved couple day break after tom no. 2 goes down :D

my third and final season begins thursday. lot of rain in the forecast so will have to get out the crappy rain gear and maybe spend some time in the turkey tent :cry:

I hunted Nebraska this past weekend.  My main goal was to get my stepson his first bird.  Mission accomplished!  Thanks to my cousins husband who put in plenty of time scouting for us.  I will put up a story of this hunt in a different thread.  But here is a pic of us 2 hours after our hunt began.

WTG Illini!  I headed out this morning in search of a bird that I've seen a ton of times, but never when I've been hunting.  Every time I drive by a bean field I see him out there, but whenever I've hunted there, I haven't seen or heard a thing.  I got there very early this morning and all was quiet on the walk in.  About 150 yards from the corner of the field I was headed to, he gobbled from the roost-- yes!  I set up as close as I dared and called.  I normally take pictures of the whole process, but today I decided to put down my camera and try shoot a bird.  It worked out great, but I sure did miss some really great pictures as a result.  Oh well, I'm pleased with the outcome.

The bird came into the deeks in full strut.  He walked up behind and along side the jake decoy and was clucking and purring the whole time.  He scooted in the last few inches and simply leaned against the decoy.  I had my bow up and ready, but he was facing me and I didn't dare draw.  He sat there and leaned on the deek for over a minute.  Finally he backed off and walked around to the other side of the decoy.  The whole time he never quit facing my way, so I didn't dare draw.  He again leaned in on the decoy and simply stood there pushing it.  He again clucked and purred, but didn't really move at all- he just leaned on it.  He finally backed off again and walked behind the decoy.  His wing caught on the tailfeathers of the deek and it swung away from him, then back into him and he shot out a few feet from the decoy.  He turned and charged right back in, clearly not appreciating the swat on the butt.  He again leaned in and pushed his head up against the decoy this time.  That's when I slowly and carefully drew.  He stood behind the decoy for another 30 deconds, offering no shot.  He finally moved a couple steps at a time and cleared the decoy to the right.  I let my arrow fly and made a perfect shot (it was 6 yards away- not exactly a toughie). The tom shot straight up into the air, then landed on my jake decoy when he returned to earth.  He was dead when he hit the ground!  Man was it cool!!! 

I wish it was Ryan who shot the bird instead of me, but I'm still thrilled to get a turkey.  I've hunted with Ryan until late in the year for the past couple years so I haven't even tried to fill my tag.  However, I found a small window to sneak out before work today and it all came together.  Now... Ryan's tag!

I hustled out and got a few pics immediately after I shot the bird in the low light of the rising sun.  This picture almost turned out perfectly, but it's a little fuzzy on both the bird and me.  I still like it.

      As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…

      I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...

      Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?

      I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.

      Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.

      The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.

      It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.

      We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there,but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
