I drilled into my silver maple in the city and nothing is happening yet. Does anyone have any sap flowing?

Get all your taps and stuff ready and just watch them, you will know when they start dripping. Mine start dripping like crazy when it's time. wink

Stick, you are pretty much on the mark.....give or take a few gallons or so. Darkie, in the past, on good years have gotten near 3 gallons finished on as little as 7 big silvers, with like 3-4 taps on each, but I mean biggins. This year is starting to not look too good though.....way too warm too early. Hopefully, the not forecasted lows will get lower. Good thing is Accuweather is usually not that accue....time will tell. Do agree, now looks to be the time ......with hope for the future in the lower 48......the trees will "recharge" before budding, but only with some cooler weather....especially nighttime lows.

I have 135 sugars tapped in central Ottertail county. Nothing yet, but most of what little snow was left is gone. Ponded water on the trails, and when that starts to soak in the trees usually start. It was -18 last Thursday, so the trunks are still pretty cold. If the forecast holds true, we should get a pretty good run soon.

I think the trunks are still frozen. Checked mu sugars yesterday and almost nothing on 135 taps. The snow had melted, but was ponded on the trails and low spots, indicating solid frozen ground.

Tapped two sugars in my yard yesterday afternoon. One is dry and the other pushed out about 16 ounces in several hours.

I think they will bust loose in another day or two.

Two Boxelder test taps in Mankato area are running strong. Going towards Little Falls for the weekend where 40 taps with 5 gallon pails have been sitting since monday. Praying for overflowing buckets.

Lots of trees tapped in Maplewood State Park. I got out of the pickup and shook one of the garbage cans they use and had maybe a gallon in it. Don't know how long they have been out or when they were emptied.

I tapped two huge silvers in my backyard. One is flowing pretty strong. The other is dry. They are only about 50 yards (east and west) of each other. Not sure why one would run strong and the other nothing, but I'll keep watching. First time doing it, so thought it would be kind of fun to try.

Bad thing is 2012 started off a lot like this year., and it was not a good year in the middle/southern part of the state....good thing is that it never really cooled down that much after the warm start like it will this year. Lots of known and unknown variables....time will tell. My limited 4 or 5 year experience gut tells me we will get some decent flow coming up when the lows dip back down, but limited gut also tells me we are not looking at a real good year either. Specific Location will be crucial.....40 ish/lower 20's seem to be optimal.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
