Best fishing area in the cities??

It sounds like the girlfriend is going to be forcing me to make the move down to the twin cities within the next year...I told her my one need is a good lake or river within 15minutes....What area would you guys call the best area of the cities for fishing?? I was thinking around the MN river or St. Croix river...I like fishing for eyes and Bass...Thanks for any help...

It might help a bit if you ID'd where you were going to live since the area is probably 40 miles wide and 40 top to bottom.

Yeah, depends on where your moving and what your working with. But overall, the St. Croix River is your best option.

I have a boat... I'm not sure where we'll be moving yet...that's why I posted this to see which area of the cities has the best fishing available...For example if you said the st. Croix I would try and find a place close to there or if you said the Minnesota river I would try and find a place over in that area...Also I dont want to live downtown...Sorry if I'm wording this confusing...In my head it makes sense lol

The problem with fishing the Croix is dealing with all the knuckle heads in cabin cruisers.

Another vote for Pool 2. Best fishing in the metro.

To be honest you can find good fishing all over the metro, west metro you have Tonka obviously but there are a lot of smaller lakes that provide good bass, pike, muskie and eye fishing, if you go east metro you have the Croix, White Bear, Forest etc, the middle of the metro you have the river, Calhoun and some other smaller lakes. The metro can be frustrating because of the number of people you will find on the lakes at time but you can find awesome fishing also.

IMO I'd look to the north metro, maybe around the Lino Lakes area. The St. Croix is close, 35W is right there for quick escapes north, Pool 2 isn't far and there are a number of decent lakes close by.

I live in Roseville and thinks its a great location. 15 minutes to pool 2 and the croix. 20 minutes up to Chisago lakes.

You will be disappointed with the walleye fishing if that is your deal. Panfish are doable but you better time it right find hard to access lakes or get the spot on the spot. Bass fishing is very good.

Oh BTW some are going to disagree on the poor walleye fishing so consider this:we have had governors who have fished the opener in the metro, they pick the best lakes find a well known guide who has spent a better part of his life fishing the lake and they are fishing at a great time of the year-what do they get after 8 hrs? zilch or close to zilch.

West metro is your best bet IMHO.

But that aside... how does a girlfriend "force" you to relocate? Such decisions should be thoughtfully made in a way that is mutual and agreeable to both. If you were married, and she got transferred, and the two of you decided her job was more important than yours - that would be you being forced by circumstance to relocate.

But if you really meant what you said - that she is forcing you to move - I would rethink the whole thing. You'll end up relocating, and then when you come to your senses and realize that being a thrall to a vagina isn't all it's cracked up to be; or she wakes up and realizes that she wants somebody new to boss around; you'll be living in a place you wouldn't otherwise have chosen to live.

Fisky that statement is 100% inaccurate since I don’t even own a boat. Don’t let Alagnak fool you, I’ve seen more pics of him holding big walleyes in the past 2 weeks than anything else , but he makes a good point, if you are going to choose a fish to ONLY catch and release why choose the walleye?

LOL I'd have never guessed you of all people did'nt own a boat. Float tube Sturgeon fishing on the St Croix river during the fall season must get pretty chilly sometimes eh.

I guess there is a bit of a challenge to find the bigger eyes maybe consistent anyways, I toss those back and eat the 15's and them Perches I gotta weed thru eh.

Maybe I'm spoiled but them Sturgeonfish up here are rather boring in my book, may be different down your way... Up here they're so easy to find and catch and have a somewhat lack-luster fight I'd say when compared to other fish of similar size. Remember way back when I mentioned if a guy could hook a 25# Red r. Channel cat tail to tail with a 25# Sturgeon? That Catfish would pull that Sturgeonfish round and round all day.

40# Sturgeon vs. 40# Albacore.. Ah Marine fishes are in a class of their own. I miss the ocean!

Lot's of ways to enjoy the past time of fishing and it is'nt always about the catching as you well know.

I think a 30lb channel tied to a 30lb Sturgeon would be a great battle I’d love to see it! Tug O’ Fishes WARs!! But lackluster fight? Surely you jest. Actually I’ve caught several of each and personally think a 30lb (50”) sturgeon will give you a better fight than a 50lb cat. 50lb Sturgeon (or bigger)??? Fuggetabuttit Nothing in MN beats it….IMO.

Having said that, I’d much prefer moving to Baudette than moving down here.

Channel cats go spaztic and fight like hooknig up a running and jumping deer, Sturgeonfish like hooking up a small steamroller methodic pull pull pull. Each have their qualities. Not sure about the fight of the overgrown Bullhead Mudcat type you fish down there. I did catch some way back in the 80's when I was in the army and stationed on Ft. Bragg in NC.

Plenty of jobs up here, Plenty of jobs but not enough housing.. Not sure what you do for a living but iffin you did move up here I'd love to get you in my little boat sometime. Or maybe get you in a big boat and take you downrigger fishing for the hard fighting Walleye !

Ahh I see, Manufacturing engineering Tech. Polaris in Roseau always looking for folks like that. Pay probably less than Metro job but cost of living cheaper maybe. There you have it 50 minutes to the lower Rainy and about 80 minutes to the Red!!!
