Yesterday while unhooking a walleye from a crawler harness she decided to give me a taste of my own medicine cry

I've been poked many times, but this was the first time I've ever had the barb sink in sick

Wasn't fun getting it back out......but I'm grateful it wasn't a 2/0 hook LOL

I buried a treble taking a pike off my sons line when trolling for Walleye's one evening. We tried for an hour to get it out or push it through. Ended up in the Emg room at about 11:00pm. As we waited in the waiting area, the nurse came up and asked if I was Steve with the hook in the left hand? Or Steve with the hook in the right hand? confused

I looked around the room to see another guy and his buddy sitting there with a big treble stuck in the palm of his hand and we gave each other the nod! wink

That hurts but I got ya beat. 40" musky hooked on one set of trebles while the other went through my finger point barb and all. No fun. 8 stitches later.

Have you had a tetanus shot lately? If not you should.

Agreed. It looks like a rusty hook ya got there.

spent a day when the kids and wife were gone just fishing. early afternoon was picking off from shore a sauger every 10-15 minutes. sun starts to set and i just start hammering them. bigger ones with a few eyes mixed in. one finally screws me and imbeds a treble in teh same finger. after about 5 minutes of excruciating pain and messign with it, i get it out. went to try and fish after taping it with athletic tape and a napkin but it just kept pumping so i had to leave. was so [PoorWordUsage].

About a month ago I caught a 30"-32" Northern. I removed the main hook without a problem than I said to myself "I wonder where the trailer hook is hooked." The Northern thrashed went into the water and to my surprise I found the trailer hook.

Happened to me in the end of May, a Pike put a treble from an X-Rap through my palm next to where the thumb connects. The pike was hanging from my hand and the hook wouldn't come out of the mouth so I had to cut the hook connected to the pike first to release it. Pushed the barb back through the first time and the hook wasn't long enough to get the barb through and clip it, so I had to push it back in and then back out to where I could snip the barb off. This was the first fish of the morning, in a sit on top kayak nonetheless. I wasn't letting this ruin my day so I wrapped it up in electrical tape and fished the rest of the day. Electrical tape is all you need for a fishing first aid kit.

I always feel sorta like a jerk when I bring up the barbless hook issue. Last time a big pike stuck a hook in me was DECADES ago. Have had some sticks since then and they all just slide back out or come out with little fuss.

I know...I know.....you guys hate it when I preach.

But you really DON'T lose that many fish with barbless.

That may encourage me to remove all trailer hooks from any lures I currently own and will own in the future eek

Did you do an AIS inspection on that lure? grin

Its actually not weeds you are seeing on the hook, its pieces of the net. I went to pull a pike out of the net and he started flopping and I couldn't pull my hand out quick enough. Ended up with the pike, rapala, net, and my arm all hooked together in one big cluster-f. Once I got the pike off, I cut the net to get that free from the trebles.

Ok hold up a second here - you were catching walleyes? Impossible... crazy

Ouch on the hook, I'm just waiting for my day, I fish muskie enough it's not a matter of if but rather when. Had a close call a few years back, little northern on the line brought it in the boat to unhook fish started to thrash - hook from the big bucktail ends up in my shorts points all the through the fabric about 1" from getting an unwanted Prince Albert. Needless to say from the day on little northerns get the 11" pliers and shaken off over the water.

I say keep em coming.....lol. Bearberg wins so far!!! My "funnest" ....couldn't even be posted as it was when jr casted and hooked me pretty much in my arse, not too bad though, and just gripped and ripped. Worst unhooking, interestingly was a walleye as well. The hook was not the problem, but the bite was.....an infection that went darn near septic.....probably bone infection.....ended up with a thumb nearly twice the normal size and literally blew off the nail and still not right a couple years later. Payback I guess......

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
