Lip_Ripper Guy
I can't seem to figure out a good way to keep the propane tanks from rolling and bouncing around the bed of my truck in between fills. I've tried a tow strap from one side to the other, but it still doesn't keep them stationary. Any ideas?
Lusid
Milk Crate is how I deal with that.

Hawg
Milk crates work for 20# tanks but 30-40 tanks are my problem and probably LRG's. I thought of a cradle type thing, maybe someone on here has figured it out. My last 40#'er rode in my back seat for a couple days. Not good. Big A
I run bungee straps through the handles. Helps keep them in a decent standard position. Little movement is a lot better then rolling around movement
Lip_Ripper Guy
Yeah the milk crate won't work with the 30's.
BLACKJACK
Milk crate worked with the 30 I filled the other day. Why wouldn't they, the 30's are the same diameter, just taller.
randerson
Milk crate has worked for me as well the 30's are just taller than the 20's

AlligatorDundee
I drilled two small holes in the bed liner for a bungee cord and pillow. I have one on each side. Also works for auger.
IcePro
I read on the internet that 30# tanks will not fit in a milk crate. than I better go take my 30# tanks out of the milk crates in the garage. Were you using actual milk crates and not some plastic crate for holding hanging files?
Lip_Ripper Guy
Sorry...the 30's will fit in a milk crate. Same diameter as a 20.The 30's and milk crate won't work with a tonneau cover.
bturck
used the milk crate for years. worked great in the potable never had one tip over. used a piece of wire to secure the wrench as well never without the right tool. i also ran a heavy piece of wire from one side of the crate to the other and through the handle. pick tank up by the handle to move and the tank always stayed put inside. cheap solution

cold one sd
Some big box stores and propane dealers sell something called a tank foot that the bottom of a propane tank fits into to give it a bigger foot print. I have one for each of my tanks from 11 to 30 lbs.I think they cost around $8 now days. You could Goggle it.
JakeJ_Mn
I made a wooden carrier for my spare #40s. I cut two 1/2 circles from a 2x12 to hold the tanks and made a frame for the tanks to lay down. I lined the 2x12s with a piece of carpet. A ratchet strap holds them in place to and from the fill station.
Savage Brewer
His problem is he cant leve a 30# tank vertical under his tonneau cover so he needs a solution to transport the tank on its side.I made a "caddy" out of a pair of 2x12's once, I will see if I can find a picture. 1lessdog
Take 2 milk crates and put 1 on the top and lay on its side. If you have to strap them together. And they wont slide around in the back of your truck.
