One for the wall

Today I was able to sneak out of work at 11 so I was going to run out to my shack and be there by around 12:30. On the hour drive home I called my buddy that was out spearing close to my shack and see how it was going and the fish were moving. As we talked he told me just too come sit with him. Because I had not been in mine and needed to reopen the hole and his was nice and warm ready to spear it wasn't a hard sell for me.

We sat there for a couple hours watching the crappies, sunnies and perch without seeing a pike so I decided to run to the truck and grab a couple of my goofy swimming little decoys since the red and white wasn't working. The first one I handed him was the Dorkfish original yellow and orange,I said don't laugh at hoe goofy it looks or swims the pike love it.

He dropped it down and giggled at how it worked and within 2 minutes I looked over under his foot and all I could do was say big fish, big fish, big fish get ready it's under your foot coming into the decoy. He was able to get his spear right as it was coming in under his foot. I watched him line up the spear and throw as the fish was turning in the hole. As soon as he let the spear go it went slow motion I could see it flying perfectly behind the head and then the rope catch his hand or sleeve which turned the spear and it sailed harmlessly over it's head. Must have been pike fever because this isn't the first big one he has missed.

The fish takes off and stirs up the sand but clears up before he can get the spear back up the hole. He sets the spear down and jigged the decoy again mad at himself for missing and shaken up a bit from the big fish. The decoy has just settled down from him jigging it and I look over and right under his foot comes that huge head looking at that little Dorkfish again. I start stuttering big fish again and he grabbed his spear I try handing him my heavy spear Gordie made me and he say's,you take it I missed my shot. As it came in the second time it turned again,I;m not sure if it was going to leave or square up better with the decoy and I wasn't going to let it leave.

As I threw I watched the spear buried all the way to the back with the center tine centered on the fish however I thought it was about mid section of the fish. As I grabbed the line all I could feel was the fish throwing the spear around and after loosing a big one last winter I just dropped it to the bottom and let it sit. We went out side for a break and see how the neighbor was doing and his little 4 or 5 year old daughter has too run out and show us her 6.5# that she took all on her own,it was priceless seeing her smile and during pictures her dad pulls out the decoy she used and I could see it was a Laska Nord which was awesome.

So I'm still nervouse about pulling the fish up but the girls dad says look at where you hit it,your center tine is buried and you outside tines are stuck into the outside of the fish right behind the head. I guessed it was around 12 pounds my buddy guessed 13 and the neighbor guessed 12 pounds.

After I got it out of the hole and on the ice we knew it was bigger and my buddy threw the tape he had on it and said it wasn't big enough. I thought he had a 3 foot tape but as I looked down it was over the 40 inch mark, that's when I knew I would have another taxidermy bill for christmas.

All said and done it was a long skinny fish weighing in at 15.9 pounds and 40-3/4 inches long.

And a picture of the Pike paying me back. As we finished pictures it closed its mouth on my jacket pocket flap and I should of known better but I tried to pry it's mouth open with my finger. Now I'm holding the fish stuck too my jacket with the finger on my other hand stuck in it's mouth. Chinese finger traps are easier too get out of. This took a second guy with a knife to get me undone from it.

I would like too also thank my sponsors wink

Thank you for the awesome spear Gordie and all the luck you put into, throw it 4 times and brought up 4 fish.

And Dorkfish, even though some might laugh at how some of your decoys look or swim they are the ones with the most teeth marks on them.

It was awesome,I was excited just watching you get the pike fever when it came in. I think it was actually 100 times better sitting in the house and having someone else witness whats happening with you. I got more of a rush from that then just about any whitetail I have ever let a arrow fly at.

Thank you for convincing me to sit with you and the chance to throw, just remember I did try giving you my spear when it came back in shocked

Hopefully we can get the kid's and wives out together this weekend and over Christmas break for some family day's on the lake and BBQ. We might even throw a pork chop towards Gordie's shack,he's like a bloodhound and will sniff it out of the snow bank.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
