I still use 1# tanks for my Big Buddy but purchased the hose to connect to 20# tank. Did not use the hose and 20# yet. 20# tank is large item to fit in my car. Looking to get smaller tank.

$2.25/ea is a great price. I thought I saw $4.50/ea @ Gander

menards is 4 for 9 or a case was 26.99. cheapest i have seen in years were i live. yes the 20 lb tank is nice when you can drive but when it is early ice and you are dragging gear a mile or more less weight is well worth the $.

You'll probably need a mail in rebate at menards, what's wrong with 20 lb tank jeez my goodness

Doesn't fit very well in a little one man sled and a lot of extra weight for walking out.

What's wrong with trying to find the cheapest price for 1 lbers jeez my goodness

Why not just refill the one pounders out of a 25 lb. tank? It's easy and a lot less expensive.

It is illegal to transport a refilled 1 pounder and there are dangers associated with refilling.

Those are the two complaints I always hear regarding refilling. Personally, I've never done it. If I had a need for more 1 pounders I would probably think about it.

I can't find a detailed version of the story but this happened a couple years ago in Wisconsin when a couple were refilling 1 lb tanks in their garage.

FF is the hot ticket.

but SAMS CLUB will have a 4 pack for less than 8 bucks. That is a steal.

I usually buy two four packs, and that gets me thru the year.

I used to refill out of my 20 lb tank, but filling is best when the tank is warm, and I have no safe way to warm it (in the winter). In summer I would put the pounders in my garage freezer, and I'd get a nice fill.

I refuse to take the risk when I aonly have to spend less than 16 bucks for 8lbs of propane.

Thanks for the heads up on the best pricing for 1# tanks guys.

I know a lot of people get all worked up about using and refilling 1# tanks......why I don't quite understand.

I started out with a sunflower on a 20 lb tank. Didn't take long to hate that thing when pulling a shack around and taking up space.

I then went to a 5lb tank. It was better, but after an outing you'd need to refill the tank or you could run out during the next trip. On Sunday's no one was open in the area to refill it, after fishing on Sat. and getting back late into the evening no one was open then to refill it either.

I then tried a Big Buddy with a hose attachment & tried 1# tanks. I hated the Big Buddy. The heater would blow out quite often, and when there wasn't enough snow to pack around the flip over it was worthless. Plus it didn't kick out the heat like the sunflower.

Finally, I bought a heater/cooker and used 1# tanks. Now this has been the handiest heater combination I have found. It kicks out heat plus doesn't take up to much room in the flip over sled. The most 1# tanks I've went threw in a day was 4. It doesn't blow out like the big buddy. If I'm in a pinch about every gas station seems to carry 1# tanks.

I picked up an adaptor and now refill my 1# tanks now. I keep 2 milk crates on had which hold 18 tanks. Once I have about 15 tanks empty, I take 2-20# grill tanks and have a refill session outside. Never had a problem refilling yet.

I really don't understand why people feel it is so dangerous. I mean all you're doing is screwing and unscrewing tanks. No different then when putting a tank onto a heater. Plus with filling it out of the 20# it's hard to even get a full 1# in a tank, so it's not likely to over fill it. Sure accidents can happen, but how is it really any different then working with compressed air, gasoline, fuel, or chemicals? I mean if you use your head and are careful I don't see why refilling should be an issue.

Also, if anyone finds something that is has handy and works like a heater/cooker and the 1# tanks system let me know.

With that analogy saving time and money traveling in a plane is great until the one time it isn't.

To me it's your analogy that is a little off.

Comparing an activity hundreds of thousands of people do every day with one that is done by a small group of people willing to risk being nominated for a Darwin Award to save a few pennies.
