AA http://www.mnhockeyhub.com/bracket/show/763893?subseason=103053

A scores from yesterday.

1 ST TMS 12

8 APOLLO 0

4 EGRDFK 3

5 LOURDS 2

3 HRMNTN 3

6 DMARSL 0

2 BRECK 6

7 MARSHL 1

Thankfully St Thomas is moving up to AA next year, it has been embarrassing to watch them dominate A hockey and pretend like they won something.

Wow looking at St Thomas Acadamy a little closer they should be the #1 seed in AA this year! Plenty of D1 talent, their only losses are to Minnetonka and Hill Murray, they also beat and tied Hill, and beat Shattuck, Edina and Beniled-St Margrets.

Yeah, STA annoys me. I'm glad they move to AA in 13-14 season.

Don't get me wrong, they are a great team. I just don't like the teams that farm kids from all the other associations. Just me. I'd rather root for the teams with the kids that played together their entire hockey life.

STA played with ZERO class last night. Chippy team, dont get me wrong they have great talent, but 12-0 and the physical style of play could have gone away after the 4th goal and not letting a shot on net in the first period. I thought the display of power was over done and very very class-less. They out shot them 50-3, no need to absolutley destroy a team. Pathetic coaching

Bartman - ditto. That's why I like rooting for the northern mn schools. Not that they dont bend the recruiting rules either, but at least it's to a lesser extent. Besides, I just cant bring myself to root for teams I used to play against.

The Tourny starts for me today, not a big fan of the A bracket and hardly ever watch other than maybe the title game.

And in AA what team would that be?....oh thats right there isn't one and ALL of the top programs recruit every bit as much as the select few successful privates do...PERIOD~

Personally I find it amazing and much harder to do with-out the feeder programs what Hill and SPA do year in and year out.

I don't know Pier they make it look pretty easy. If you build it they will come, no recruiting neccessary. The kids want to win, they know who the power programs are in PeeWee and Bantams, the rest of the talent knows they can get on a winner in high school by going next door or going private. Just the way of things.

Every kid wants to win, the parents chose where the kids go and it does have to do with the program, coach, and tradition. (winning)

There are at least 5 kids playing this year in the tourney that I have coached. Only 2 are playing at a public school.

Private schools should be in thier own Tourny like it was pre 1974.

OK, let me have it.

In class A, all they do is find the best players and then they seem to win the majority of the tourny's.

I have watched the state tourny since 1968 and I loved it, cannot' hardly stand to watch it anymore.

Neal Broten won a Stanley Cup with the Devils, played his first NHL game with his home state team the North Stars. Played for the Gophers and won a National Championship, won a gold medal on the 1980 USA team. Pretty good run.

When asked his favorite memory in his career he said hands down playing for Roseau in the Mn State High School Tournament.

They could do some adjusting of classes etc but it's still awesome.

I'm from East Grand Forks and I will be rooting for them today at 1 pm. They have played AA teams tough this year and I look forward to watching them play the best team in the state today. 9 out of 10 games ST Thomas might win, but it comes down to one game. EGF has a rugged D core and 3 deep lines, so I think they will be able to play with them. And I hope the X embraces the under dog today. GO EGF and no body was recruited on this team or moved to play hockey due to open enrollment. If your at the X wear Green and ROLL WAVE!!

I think the vast majority of HS fans will be rooting right with you for East Grand.

St Thomas is an awesome team, but the manner in which they win is classless. Not the kids' fault. They are trying to win and trying to interview for college scholarships, but man, when you hand pick each of the kids from rivals and assemble them onto one team and just decimate schools of similar size who literally have no chance to "recruit" as some have said is ridiculous.

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
