I don't know what motivates other people to take part in these discussions, but I challenge religion at every opportunity for the simple reason that I am sick to death of people claiming to know things they could not possibly know and pushing those beliefs into public policy. If someone wants to have an invisible friend, that's fine by me. Just don't push what you think he's telling you on the rest of us.

Perceived difference in the writings , but still the same book.

Religion and the Bible are two differnt things. Religion is the belief of people; the Bible is the word of God. Beleive what you will and whos to say that your not the one involed in silliness buddy.

You're missing the point Gordie. I'm not trying to make you a disbeliever. I just want religious folks to quit intruding into the lives of myself and others and I want you to quit making me pay to support your beliefs. Seems to be a reasonable request.

Unlike most religious folks, I'll gladly admit that I could be wrong. The book you call the bible, which is a collection of different writings, spanning hundreds of years, written by multiple and often unknown authors, in several different languages, and assembled by first century fallible human beings, then translated and re-translated several times may be the word of god. Just doesn't seem too likely to me.

Really, so you don't think things like legalized Abortion, legalized Marijuana, Gay marriage, etc, etc and the cost of them which is against some peoples beliefs is not intruding and ramming it down their throats!

We can have a rational, reasonable discussion about these or any other moral or social issue we need to have. The difference between us is that I feel obliged to give clear and rational reasons, based on the best evidence I can provide for what I believe.

wrap your mind around the times back then and its easy to see why people wrote things they did to try to explain away the world because they didn't have the technology nor understanding to makes sense of it as we do today, which goes for any belief system...

if you brought a flash light back into those times, you'd be a sorcerer & probably burned at the stake lol

its all primitive and to me its just amazing that people in this day & age believe in such nonesense...typically the common denominator i find in those believers are ones minimally educated in biology...then there are those that simply can't take that when you die its final & the lights just simply go out & you cease to exist...

when people are thoroughly educated in biology, its crystal clear what is fact as to the natural world, evolution is proven beyond a doubt...then you have the religious fiction as to how the various religions want to think some supernatural god created us, its laughable & childish...

there isn't one shred of proof to any existence of any kind that there is any type of supernatural entity of any sorts nor ghosts & goblins...all there is-is faith without any rock solid substance to back it up, just old folklore writings & translations...

primitive belief systems created by primitive people in primitive times that had a very very minimal understanding of the natural world to put it lightly...

all formal religions are nothing more then just cults that have been accepted in society but they are cults none the less...

I think it's only throat ramming when it intrudes on you personally.

Nobody wants to make laws that require you have abortions, smoke pot, and get gay married. You just want to make sure that nobody else does things that you wouldn't do.

I would try to examine why it is that you have such a problem with it and deal with that as best you can.

Last I checked the LGBT community wasn't tax exempt... Religion is a choice... Sexual orientation... Whether you'd like to believe so or not... Is not always a choice... Also they don't come knocking on my door at 8am asking me if I've let homosexuality into my heart...

Kinda surprised SyFy didn't option to air The Bible... Seeing as it also falls into the realm of science fiction... "resurrection" is just another word for zombie after all...

Wether anyone believes in God or not (I do), it takes a lot more faith to believe in evolution than it does to believe God is the creator of the universe! I used to believe in evolution and the big bang, and all that other fun stuff...on the surface it all makes sense, but if you start to look at the specifics and details, the thought that evolution could ever exist is alot more laughable than someone believing in God. The human body (and all other life forms) are so complicated and complex, that no other explanation other than creation from a higher power makes sense!

I highly recommend the book "the case for a creator" (written by a non believer). This book contains numerous references, research, and quotes from scientists, scholars, preachers, universities, etc from all over the world from last 100+ years. One of the better references was a letter written by Darwin to another scientist about his doubts about evolution based solely on the complexity of the human eye.

These threads on this subject are kind of all a like and end the same way with all the nonbelievers milling around at the end like sharks looking for the last believer who has not just given up to bite on. Look back at all the posts and see the way replys were given in tone and wonder why some are the way they are? There's a lot of hatefull name callers out there sad to say.
