Didn't seem to read this part? What book of the Bible was it in? Or did you add it in your version? confused

Doesn't surprise me that you haven't read it. Most christians aren't actually too familiar with the bible. The passage is 2kings 2:24

Atheists believe there is no god so I wouldn't fit in that category. I believe Buddhists don't believe in a personal god either, more of a moral philosiphy. You are right though there are many different religions that do believe in different gods. Is there a god you have found a belief in that does everything in a way that is acceptable to you or do all of these different gods appear to be crazy like the god of the bible?

I prefer the bible episode on Penn and Teller's Bulls*** It is available on you tube.

Penn is an Atheist and Teller is Jewish. I can see where it would be easy for them to do a show against something they don't believe or weren't raised to believe and who's followers are so forgiving. I wonder how long they would live if they did a show on the Koran? whistle Here is an interview with them on the subject.

In this excerpt from a Las Vegas Weekly interview, Penn Jillette explains why he won't cover Islam or Scientology on his TV show, Bullsh**!

Our producer says that Teller and I can take any subject in the news and do a credible show on it. Sure, we like to have a villain, something to call "bullsh**" on, but if we don't, we can depart from that model.

Are there any groups you won't go after? We haven't tackled Scientology because Showtime doesn't want us to. Maybe they have deals with individual Scientologists –- I'm not sure. And we haven't tackled Islam because we have families.

Meaning, you won’t attack Islam because you’re afraid it’ll attack back ... Right, and I think the worst thing you can say about a group in a free society is that you’re afraid to talk about it–I can’t think of anything more horrific. [...]

You do go after Christians, though ... Teller and I have been brutal to Christians, and their response shows that they’re good my-mom-sees-this**ing Americans who believe in freedom of speech. We attack them all the time, and we still get letters that say, “We appreciate your passion. Sincerely yours, in Christ.” Christians come to our show at the Rio and give us Bibles all the time. They’re incredibly kind to us. Sure, there are a couple of them who live in garages, give themselves titles and send out death threats to me and Bill Maher and Trey Parker. But the vast majority are polite, open-minded people, and I respect them for that.

I love how people who haven't been saved yet, come out and point out all of the "gruesome" parts of the Bible and join in on a thread just to put their .02 in on how cool they are because they are non-believers.

While you are looking up gruesome passages, take a look at 2 Corinthians 5:17, there is still hope for you my friend smile

Teller's father is Jewish. Penn Jillette was raised in a Congregational church in MA and became an atheist by actually reading the Bible as part of his youth group assignments. He questioned it and asked questions. He was told to leave the youth group because he was turning the other kids into atheists.

“Believing there is no God gives me more room for belief in family, people, love, truth, beauty, sex, Jell-O and all the other things I can prove and that make this life the best life I will ever have.”

—Penn Jillette, “There Is No God,” NPR's "This I Believe" series, Nov. 21, 2005

What bothers me about the bible series on The History Channel is the creators of it pushing to have the bible taught in schools. They had an op-ed in the WSJ.

I have been on both sides of this as a believer and now an atheist. Personally atheism makes more sense and my life is much better as a non-believer. I do believe that everyone is different and some are better off believing.

I don't know what motivates other people to take part in these discussions, but I challenge religion at every opportunity for the simple reason that I am sick to death of people claiming to know things they could not possibly know and pushing those beliefs into public policy. If someone wants to have an invisible friend, that's fine by me. Just don't push what you think he's telling you on the rest of us.

keep believing in those cult snake oil teachings. you haven't been saved, you've just been brainwashed...

can't deny what science has proven with evolution. unless you want to remain blind & ignorant...

The bible is an interesting book especially if you consider historical context... really. The stories are stories... not fact. But if you read history around the time of the stories you can see more of what the theme was.

Before this becomes religion vs science discussion I would like to hear anyone that actually enjoys this production.

The acting is terrible. Really, really bad. And it isn't in a format where i can ignore it!

I liked it so far, I think that the show will probably try to hit the major points of the old and new testements. As for these bear stories, ive never read that one. But i think that with all the different beliefs over the bible within the judeo-christian community, just hitting the major points is all they could do. Just take the creation story, there are those who believe it is 6,000yrs old and quite a literal tale, and then there are those(like myself) who believe the world is just a wee bit older and that maybe they were using the words they had to describe things.

But I think the first episode was overall good, The only thing better would be the angel ninja having a flamming sword haha.

BTW that ancient aliens show is great stuff... smile

How did you get over the acting? As one who knows the bible stories and has studied it in depth... i could not get past more than 15 minutes of it. It was horrible.

I switched over to the "vikings" deal too, found a little less annoyed with the acting but still ended up changing it to alaska state troopers in the end...

PS ancient aliens is awesome entertainment. Anyone who hates that show takes life too seriously.
