Recap of 3rd Annual Get To Gator on Winnie

Every year I swear this event gets better and better each year that we go to Dixon Resort. The time that we spend out on the ice is one thing, but the time we spend off the ice IMO is the best part of the trip.

I first want to thank everyone for the items that they gave us to give away. Below you will see some photos of the event and some good times that we had.

Laska for doing the trophy decoys, Clam for the HATS, Jason for the decoy, Sham for the two decoys, MDAA for the two red and white decoys, and Wayne from Fish Toys Ice Saw for the saw. I cant thank you all enough for the items!

As far as the weekend and the results, Sam (bowhunt) had the biggest fish and took 1st with a 39 incher that was 16lbs. Kenny (hawkeye43) took second with a 33, and Matt (behindthehead) aka “two in the tail” took 3rd. Of course, BNS didn’t get anything, but is happy to say that Fiancé got her first fish.

All in all it was another great weekend. I want to thank everyone for coming this year again, and I hope that everyone will be back. Hopefully this event keeps getting bigger and bigger. We will be going again next year. Mark your calendars, as the event is Dec 6th-8th.

Thanks to everyone that contributed to and attended the event.

It is so much fun and like BNS said the best part is hanging out with everyone. I'm already looking forward to next year.

Great fish Sam, that one is going to be hard to top!

I just wanted to say thank you to all that made the GTG happen this year. I had a good time and it was nice to meet everyone and put faces to the avatars. What a great group of people! After not seeing a Pike the first two days I decided to try my home lake Dunbar. Got a few with the biggest about 27." Congrats to Bowhunt! That fish is a sow! Hope everyone had a safe trip home. See you on the Ice.

I am thinking about incorporating the 1st place decoy into the replica mount. We will see how it all turns out, might be a while though have to start saving up the money for it.

bowhunt,Congrat's on another great fish. It was a blast BSing with you on Sunday. I'm glad you took the big one over Hawkeye he is allways right up there and takes a decoy home wink

With a 2nd and a 3rd place in hand there is only one more place and the nord lord to go after next year.

Sam, That is a very nice fish, you should be very proud of it.

shamalex72, It was your decoy I used for 2nd place. What a treat to use a work of art like that. It truly just glides though the water like a real fish. That is one of the finest decoys I have ever used. Thank You Sir.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
