Just when you thought that nothing new could ever be done to ice rods, inventor, Jeff Zernov has changed everything. Three game changing technologies will be seen this year on the shelves of select retailers.

PENCIL Grip is A revolutionary design in rod handle comfort

• The custom designed Pencil Grip with a double taper makes a perfect

ergonomic fit to your the hand; if you hold it conventionally or in

the “Pencil Grip” fashion.

• The double taper fits your hand in form fitting comfort while transferring

more rod sensitivity, otherwise masked by cork or foam materials.

• Pencil Grip’s graphite ABS injection contour handle with the soft touch

finish will give you more blank length to assure precise tapers,

action and fish fighting confidence.

Angle Hair tip, talk about a noodle, the angle hair is super sensitive.

Angel Hair is a revolutionary new bite-detecting tip. Instead of the after-thought

spring hanging from the rod, Angel Hair is an ultra- sensitive fiberglass tip

fused directly to the graphite rod tip. This fusion technology gives you a

visual indication when a fish is breathing on your bait, it also is one

with the rod and transmits the bite vibration to your hand.

Ultra Feel

Revolutionary sensitivity

Radical new design concept

By design, rod handles kill sensitivity because the blank is padded inside cork or foam.

Ultra Feel allows you to touch the actual floating blank inside the handle

The blank floats in the front tunnel allowing you to detect the most subtle of bites

In traditional rods the hinge point is in front of your hand where the blank exits the handle. With Ultra Feel, because the rod attaches to the handle behind your hand you feel the maximum rod deflection possible.

Hold Ultra Feel in a pencil grip and touch the “sweet spot” with your pointer finger

Hold Ultra Feel as a conventional spinning rod and touch the “sweet spot” with your thumb.

The sweet spot is where the rod blank passes through the front tunnel. Touching the union of the rod blank and the tunnel allows you to feel the most subtle of bites

Molded from super tuff graphite filled ABS

It’s simple, Feel more bites, catch more fish

Feel More, catch more

True comfort in your hand no matter how you hold it

6-inch handle gives you more blank to fish with

Look for these technologies incorporated into Combos at select retailers in the Ice market

neat. However...

I always jig with my index finger resting on the rod blank anyway.

and no cork? what about when my hands are cold and wet?

is this a solution looking for an answer type product?

How heavy is this rod?

Hey, I was lucky enough to be in on the first stages of the release of these rods. I fished with them all last winter, and can tell you hands down--- The Ultra Feel will change the way you fish. Yes, its something you will have to pick up to believe. But by changing the anchor point of the rod blank to the handle it creates a pinch point where your hand touches the rod and makes feeling the lure and or bites so much easier its crazy. I felt no need at all to use a spring bobber ever with this rod. I too was one that always tried to fish with my finger on the blank before.. But its night and day different. Pick one up and try it for yourself. It will only take seconds to make you a believer too.

Having your hand or finger on the rod is one thing.. having your finger on the rod at the pinch point or floating rod blank is totally different. Please do not take my word for it though! Try it.. its like the difference between a mosquito bite and a bee sting.. And yes, the handle is plastic, there is no way to make the rod to handle strong enough with cork. All my summer rods are plastic/metal at the reel seat. If worried about cold, maybe wrap with hockey tape?

Lastly this is a solution. I am not a fan of spring bobbers, they hinder the jigging action. I now can feel all that much better. I was convinced in the first 5 mins of trying it.

I guess the biggest advantage would come from having a fixed reference point to gauge deflections of the rod. If you just have your finger on the blank coming out of a typical handle, you don't have the defined zero point that the fixed tunnel provides. The finger is probably more sensitive to an actual change in distance that you can feel, versus a deflection in open space?

I'm starting to feel bad for the fishes. grin

These rods are hitting the shelves next week. So you all can check them out for yourselves, or of course they will be available to see at the Ice show as well.

Stay safe in the woods this weekend everybody.
