Stcloudangler
Hey, all I know is the MVP of the league is on our team and we will ride the Percy train to a shot at the playoffs this year! The opening kickoff was amazing, Marvin Mitchell didnt even need to touch that fool. Ponderholics, there is a lotta work to be done to consider him a good QB. He is a liability that is holding this team back.
nofishfisherman
Ponder seems to be regressing in a huge way. Hopefully its just a hiccup in his overall progression into a franchise QB. I guess only time will tell. Right now he needs to be almost perfect given the WR's we have. Right now the WR's aren't getting open at all if they are past 5-10 yards. That makes the QB job very tough. ALthough that is not meant to be an excuse for Ponder. If everything down field is taken away he still needs to make the right decision and check down or get rid of the ball. I didn't get to watch the entire game this week but it seems like all of his turnovers happen when he holds on to the ball for too long. That is one thing he needs to work on for sure. harvey lee
Hold on to the ball to long? When he gets in trouble and has a chance to scramble, he seems to just throw it up and again 2 intercepts todays. He has it physically but in the head, a bit short. Then, we have no long threat at all this season. I do not believe Ponder can even throw a good accurate long ball.Ponder will hold this team back even if we are in a rebuilding year.Love to see what this team could do with a real QB. schmitty3
Geez, give the guy a chance. Let's not forgot they won the game. Not saying he's gonna be one of the top qb's in the league, but don't discredit him for how he played those first 4 games. I don't think the team is doing too bad with him at qb either... 5-2 sound good to me?

nofishfisherman
They won this game in spite of Ponder but he has always helped them win some games earlier this season. He has had a couple bad games but also some games where he's looked like he's starting to get it. Hopefully the rest of the year will tell us which version of Ponder is the real Ponder.
zepman
Sick of the direction the other thread is going...thoughts about this weeks match-up?I predict the Vikes bounce back and win 28-10.Skelton will get punished and the defense bounces back to play a great game.5-2 Close.Nice to be 5-2...a win is a win is a win, I guess. Ponder makes me nervous...still has a LONG way to go. Just doesn't look like THE guy to me. I have patience...Our defense is legit...a healthy Winfield and some safeties who can actually make plays is a huge difference.A win over Tampa this Thursday and I think play-off conversations have to start. Let's hope Ponder can figure this thing out...he has the skills just don't know if he has the intangibles to make him a starting QB in this league. He has to play better...period! Scott K
We won! Ponder has about 1 full season under his belt now, I give him a C grade. He reminds be a bit of Brad Johnson. He isnt going to put up 300 yards a game, but he runs the game well enough to keep you in the game, and win a few. For those of you calling for his head, who should we replace him with? Maybe the Packers will trade us Rodgers? Maybe we can get Tom Brady? Or maybe the Giants dont want Manning any more? We have to play with what we have, and so far he is winning, he just isnt in the leader category in any of your fantasy teams. At the present time, even if we had Rodgers on the bench, a smart coach wouldnt pull a winning QB because of stats, and Ponder would be playing anyhow. There is no QB controversy at all, and as long as we put a W on the board, there wont be, nor should there be. Now stop whining, and finding things to complain about, and enjoy the win! nofishfisherman
I think the 2 games against Chicago and the 2 games against Green Bay will show us whether or not this team is worth believing in. If they can win 2 out of 4 they have a chance, but if this version of the team shows up we'll be 0-4 in those games. I think for the playoffs to be realistic we need to win the rest of our home games which will give us 9 wins, then we may still need to steal a win on the road somewhere, maybe St. Louis. aanderud
For those of you calling for his head, who should we replace him with? Maybe the Packers will trade us Rodgers? Maybe we can get Tom Brady? Or maybe the Giants dont want Manning any more? Funny you should bring that up, earlier this year a different Manning WAS on the trading block from Indy. You don't think that the Vikes could have convinced Peyton to come here and play with one of the best running backs in the league for a couple of years while Ponder learned from one of the greatest to play in today's game? I don't think they tried because they have "their guy" already. At this point Ponder is looking like just about as bad of a QB in this league as a T-Joke, or maybe worse. I have to wonder where this team could go with a good QB this year, but we'll never know. The frustrating part about a (potentially failed) "rebuilding" attempt at QB is that AP probably has only a couple good years left in him. Even if Ponder is "the guy", by the time we have a QB that can get the job done well enough to drive deep into the playoffs, we won't have a running back.I guess if Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer can win superbowls, then theoretically so can Ponder. We'll see.

brian6715
Limit do you honestly think if we are 6-2 we don't have a chance at making the playoffs? I have some prime coastline in New Orleans I can sell you, if you do.
nofishfisherman
Don't expect too much of a response brian, the previous post is about as insightful as LMITOUT gets.At 6-2 we of course have a shot. But realistically we still need to get 3 more wins to make it happen after that and 4 of our remaining 8 games are against the Bears and the Packers so its not going to be easy. I'm still putting us on an 8-8 record and likely that won't get us into the playoffs.
harvey lee
Yes, we are winning with Ponder at QB but we are winning on offense due to AP and Harvin. Without those 2, Ponder is nothing. The guy is a c QB at best.I wish we had a bit of a long threat but maybe Ponder cannot throw the ball far enough. They way the Vikes had played the last 2 weeks, we are in serious troble with GB and Chi. Home or away, it will not matter unless they turn it around and fast.Yesterday the 2nd half was a total joke for the Vikes. Our passing game was gone and not much for AP. Maybe our play calling was not adjusted well enough as the offense was somewhere else for sure.

Slabasaurus
Are you really delusional enough to think that Gerhart is any where near the talent that Peterson is? Well he can sure take hits better than your boy RG3 can.Maybe he'll fumble more but his ability to recite the ABC's after said hits is much, much better. Any more than that and Kool-aid guzzling Viking fan's head will explode.Congratulations, you beat a mediocre Arizona team and another team playing a backup QB. Meanwhile, your QB continues his regression while throwing for 58yds Well done.Save me a spot on the Super Bowl parade route.

If your starting QB goes down, and is replaced by Kolb, then Kolb goes down and the original starting QB comes in, is it technically a backup QB?Not saying that AZ isn't mediocre, just curious how that would work.Technically Skelton was the starting QB, Kolb was the backup, until Skelton went down, and Kolb took over. If you can call 987 sacks 23 broken ribs and 10 concussions "taking over"(I hate hyperbole.)

Ponder Reminds me very much of Brad Johnson. Brad Johnson was one of my all time favorite quarterbacks. He dident have such a high interception ratio as ponder, i dont think. Johnson later in his career became a very short yard passer. He was a deep threat when he had big name receivers but for the most part he was a west coast offense kinda guy. The west coast offense was big then. not so much anymore with all the deep ball going on in the NFL. Anyway Brad Johnson was a stand up guy, Ponder seems to be aswell... Certainly ponder is no cam newton personality wise. (Cam Newton Appears to be a major Jerk). Anyways ponder is capable of playing well he proved that early this season. He just has to get back on the wagon, also he could use sum deep threat receiver's (simpson is a joke). he isint very acurate throwing super deep but he will get much better as time goes on. Also i think webb is a viable back up QB who needs to stay warm so ta speak. He is one of the biggest waste of talents in the nfl right now. I agree with 4WanderingEyes you cant bench ponder with a 5-2 season, not even close. To be completely honest with ya, Im surprised there is not a QB controversy. Im looking at it from a before the season perspective, as much as i wanted Ponder to be our guy(and so far i think he has earned it) I just dident think he would work out. I mean im a die hard Vikes fan, but i saw us at this point maybe being 2-5, and having ponder play all his games the ways he has played the last two games. Which would have left us in QB controversy Cause i think every one would be screaming for either Webb to play or ta find sombody else.... So all that being said, Like wonderingeyes said stop whinning and sit back and enjoy the 5-2 (soon ta be 6-2) start. The end of the season is going ta be tough, but at least we will have a reason ta watch this year. Last year was tough ta watch all the way threw. I personally think we will at least be competitive throughout(maybe not if the packers and bears keep up it up). Rooting for the Lions ta beat the bears 2nyt On MNF is a start... As it stands im keeping my PLAYOFFS ATTITUDE (WILDCARD OR OTHER) WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
nofishfisherman
Haha, LMITOUT. You barely made it 10 words before you mentioned kool-aid this time. You got to start mixing it up a little. Your getting WAY too predictable. You even rehashed your old back-up QB argument (Skelton's actually the starter by the way) and your request for a reserved seat at the super bowl parade. Remember I already told you we have one saved for your right next to the porta potty.
Stcloudangler
Save me a spot on the Super Bowl parade route. I dont think this even deserves a response, but its just too darn juicy. This season may not be a winner, but the Vikes are here to stay. That was half the battle. If Spielman continues to draft the way 2012 turned out, I will be front row for our first Super Bowl parade in 3-4 years. Things ARE looking up. And you my friend, will be looking up at us.{Cue the Who... YAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!}
LMITOUT
Haven't you noticed that it is always another "3-4 years" with this franchise? They keep selling hope and the rubes keep buying, yet nothing ever happens except more promises.3-4 years...yep, just keep telling yourself that.
