Difference Between winter ice fishing line and normal summer line.

with that said, why do they sell blue and clear winter line? Like I'm supposed to be able to see some blue 2lb line while standing over the ice well enough to thread it through a jig and tie a quality not? crazy

When winter time comes around I simply look for bright colors (orange, red, etc) in 2 and 4lb varieties so I can see the line out on the ice.

I can buy a spool of #2 for $3-$4 and spool several or pay the same for a small spool and do 1 or 2... I just use the simple old Trilene XL for winter or summer, have tried many so called ice lines over the years but always go back to XL...

I just lined a couple of my ice reels with some Trilene XL (the XT is a bit too stiff...has a bit too much memory for my liking). I also used some Power Pro on a couple reels...we'll see if I like that on my ice reels as much as I like it on my summer reels.

I use braided lines, switch every couple years, no more break offs, might miss one here or there because of the line but I catch tons of fish big and small. It does not work well at all if you fish out of the hut, it freezes quickly and holds more water than normal line

I've been using Trilene XL for as long as I can remember and more recently Gamma and it works fine. Once I tried the Blue Trilene and could find nothing different in performance except that I couldn't see it to hook up a crappie jig in low light.

+4 on the PLine, and I've been told the same thing. The Floroice is the same as the floroclear. I use that as well as fireline. I'm got some Northland braid free this year, so I'll try that too for inside rods.

Anyone have any color preferences for ice line? My eyes are not what they use to be but want a line not visible underwater. I have a hard time tying and also seeing line on the ice when outside the shack. I guess I could bring the bifocals but then have problems with fogging:( I've seen lots of color varieties but what can be seen underwater in a clear lake like Mille Lacs?

I have trouble seeing the 2 and 4lb line so I've been using red, orange and yellows for years. I can't catch any fish if I cant tie a lure so that whole "disappearing underwater color" thing doesn't mean anything to me. I catch plenty of fish regardless of line color.
