Busch, the talented former Cup champ with a prickly personality, will not return to the team next season following a high-profile meltdown at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The Observer said the news would become official on Monday.

The departure means Busch is without a ride for next season and will have very limited options for returning to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. He's already burned his bridges with Ford (Roush Fenway Racing) and Dodge (Penske), and there seems to be no rides available at any other major team.

Busch told reporters in Las Vegas this week that he's recently started seeing a sports psychologist to deal with his anger issues, but it appears to have been too little, too late.

Crew chief Steve Addington departed Busch's No. 22 team for Stewart-Haas Racing at the conclusion of the season, and now the team will have a new driver, too.

The driver acknowledged sponsor Shell-Pennzoil was upset, but practically scoffed when a reporter asked Thursday if Busch thought his job was in jeopardy.

"As the sponsor is concerned, yes, they're agitated about what happened at Homestead," Busch said. "But looking forward, we can find better things."

Busch's departure will come as good news for drivers who are out of work, such as David Ragan, David Reutimann and Brian Vickers. But Penske could also give Sam Hornish Jr. another chance after the three-time IndyCar Series champion was bumped down to a part-time Nationwide Series schedule this season.

Most NASCAR fans will have a hard time mustering much sympathy for Busch. Though the driver was apologetic over his repeated clashes with the media and angry radio rants toward his team, he has mostly been regarded as one of NASCAR's most difficult personalities.

Now, that apparently has cost him a job.

Wow, I found this surprising until I seen his comment that if Pennzoil leaves that they would find something better. That was a major stupid thing to say. It will be very interesting to see who Kurt races with in 2012. I agree, very doubtful he gets a big time ride, there may be a medium budget ride willing to gamble or the truck series with Kyles' team.

This should make these 2 clowns wake up a bit. I might guess that if Kyle continues with his antics, they could lose Mars and I would guess that would be the final blow for him also.

Plenty of drivers who would love to be ib a Cup car and that would be a bit more gracious than the 2 Busch clowns that are in the cars now.

UPDATE Penske Racing announced today that it has reached a mutual agreement with driver Kurt Busch to end its driver/race team relationship, effective immediately. The team will evaluate its options for the driver of the #22 Sprint Cup Series car in the future while Busch will seek new opportunities with another race team. "I appreciate the victories that Kurt has brought Penske Racing and our sponsors over the past six years," said Roger Penske. "While I am disappointed that Kurt will not be racing for our team in the future, both Kurt and I felt that separating at this time was best for all parties, including our team and sponsors. I wish Kurt the best in his future racing endeavors."

"I am grateful to Penske Racing for six very productive years," said Busch. "Together we won a lot of races -16 in all. Leaving a great organization and a lucrative contract is not easy, but it's an important step for me and allows me to take a deep breath to work on things that can make me a better driver and a better person. AND been told Ragan has been released by Roush Fenway Racing and Ford to pursue other oppurtunities. Supposedly he was in line to run the #51 Chevy in 2012, but now hearing he will sign a one-year deal to run the #22 Dodge for Penske.(12-5-2011)

1) It will be interesting to see if / where Kurt lands a ride. I don't think too many sponsors would be real interested in having him drive a car they are sponsoring. Plus, in terms of a top notch program, where is there for him to go? He burned bridges with Penske and Rousch. The Hendrick stable is full, and while Childress may have an open car with Bowyer's departure, I doubt he goes there.

2) Maybe this will be a wake-up call for brother Kyle. I honestly don't think M&M's & Gibbs will put up with too much more of his shennanigans* either.

As much as I do not care for Kylke, I have always said the guy can drive a race car. I think Kyle is twice the driver his brother is.

I do believe that he will follow in his brothers footsteps in regards to losing his ride also.

This would be awesome! I have never seen a complete race team on suspension before.

Those 2 pukes would start bickering at each other in the pits and then crash each other on the track and then try to blame someone else for their team difficulties.
