Vicious Recoil Hypersonic Style

Recommended Posts

My collarbone aches, my middle finger from my shooting hand is severely bruised and I only fired twice last weekend. Anyone interested in 3.5" Hypersonic Remington BB ? Got 5 boxes of it. I can't believe the recoil difference between my old 3.5" NitroSteel T's and this Hypersonic stuff. I was told they quit making the NitroSteel. I'm not really a little dude and I couldn't believe the trigger guard crushed my middle finger like that, I literally went home, did not want to fire again. My dad once told me that 3.5" is kinda a joke, more gun sales, shell sales for the companies, if they are that high up don't shoot, we never had an issue with 3" steel on geese before so why do you need a 3.5" ? I said well ah I don't really know. I know one thing it's a heavier gun to swing and I'm flinching more on recoil now then I did as a 10 year old. Any thoughts Hypersonic folks ? Or any 3.5" shells that don't beat on you like hypersonic ? It's been a tough transition from my 3" to my 3.5" gun.

Man, it really does kick big time, my middle finger and it's been 4 days ago now may be actually fractured, I can't touch it whatsoever, is Remington going to cover my deductable lol jk. I had never felt the trigger guard hit my middle finger before, I fired maybe 5 boxes of nitro 3.5" through the same gun, just ran out of Nitro Steel and couldn't get any so I ordered Hypersonic, the collarbone is all about the angle of shooting straight up. You know how it is target shooting you feel recoil more so than shooting at live game in a sense, but this stuff I was cringing holding it as tight to the shoulder as I could etc. I did fire a few rounds of it the weekend before and was like wow is it that much more of a kick, last wkd got 2 rounds off and went on the physically unable to perform list. Mercy.

I have a 3.5 12 ga and no longer use the 3.5 shells I sold a perfectly good Ithamag 10Ga. 10ga autos do not come close to the recoil of the 12ga 3.5. I should have stayed 10 ga for waterfowl period.

mwal, I wish I knew now what I didn't know then, I can't type with that middle finger, it is damaged to what extent I don't know other than the bone bruise or whatever is damaged in there. It doesn't help much when many of my shots are straight upish and at times not having great footing. I'll never hit much with that stuff as I'm just cringing thinking about what happened Saturday morning and I doubt I'll forget by this saturday. Looks like there will be for sale 1 brand new 3.5" synthetic Remington 870 pump and another slightly used same thing with 5 boxes of Hypersonic 3.5" BB. I live medium close to Brock Lesnar, maybe he could take it on. I'm going back to the 3" 870 remington, why I thought I needed some extra knockdown power I'll never know, maybe the old steel days was why but it's only knocking me down now mercy.

Buck - FWIW I wouldn't shoot any of the big loads through a pump. Not cause I have anything against pumps but because I'm a whimp. I like the soft recoil of a gas gun. I had a BPS 10 that beat the hell out of me for a few years until a couple weeks ago when I finally traded it on a very slightly used Gold 10 and I'm amazed at how easy it shoots. It honestly doesn't feel much different than the gold 12 that I normally shoot for ducks.

I never really got comfy with "Old Smokey" (as my brother called it). I couldn't imagine a 3.5 inch shell kicking out of a lightish pump.

I hope you find someone to buy your hypersonic and hope your digits are ready to hunt again soon.

I'm a full Remington boyo, everything I have is Remington, guns, shells, etc. My question to remington folk are who went out and test drove a box of that stuff through a 3.5" pump. Is he or she now at home collecting disability checks ? I had plenty of clothing on Saturday AM, if I were in a T shirt I may still be laying in the swamp. Just like use a baseball bat you can handle I need a gun I can handle and it's not a 3.5" pump Rem. with the Hypersonic, of course the best fit for my gun was Nitro-Steel T stoned geese dead and didn't kill me, now they don't make it, is that true ? I know you can find it yet but once the well goes dry then what ? I wish our sportsman clubs or something could hold a day where you could test drive some of the different rounds available, pay 20 up front and create a box of shells for yourself and take mental notes of what you liked disliked rather than spend 30 at the store and realize oh no.

Before the Hypers***ics came along, the only thing you got out of a 3.5 inch shell was more BBs. I've heard more horror stories with those shells than I've ever heard of any other newly marketed shell.

I still have three boxes of 3.5 inch Winchesters at home that I've never touched. Just no need. I did better with some 2 3/4 shells my dad gave me this fall than I've done with anything else. Had I not bought a case of 3 inchers, I'd probably go back and get more 2 3/4!

No doubt Hugo, honestly had geese still flying and I said forget it, 1 more crack on that finger and I would've been squeeling like porky pig. I went straight home, thought about shooting left handed, then realigned my collarbone and got out of dodge. Wish I could shoot the ultimate goose killer like years back..... The remington wingmaster pump with a full choke, 30" barrel and # 4 buckshot that was lethal at the edge of gun range, now those same ranges I'm chasing cripples or ringing necks and it's costing a lot more. Then again with hypersonic, I won't be pulling the trigger much at least not without finger protection mercy.

I wont ever shoot those again. They are too hard on a gun and dont kill ducks any better than any other shell.

My friend blew the barrel up on his 11-87 last year with them.

Plus I dont know why, but one box of remington will make my gun dirtier than a whole case of kents or federals. Theyve always been that way.

I was using my son's new 3.5" for Goose last year one day and almost broke my finger from the trigger guard as well. I kept think that I needed to grip the stock tighter the next time but it kept happening each shot until I could hardly take it any longer! cry Never a issue with my 3".

I have a 3.5" remington 870 supermag and the recoil difference between that and my winchester SX2 is ridiculous. I can shoot a case of 3.5" federal at snows through the X2 and not even really notice; but the minute I switch to the 870 I hate it. Especially 3.5" buck when predator hunting. NO THANKS.

I appreciate your input, I was really thinking man I'm 230 pounds and I'm really wussing out here, also yes, man I shoot 3 rounds, clean the barrel and it looks like I fired a thousand rounds, right on sledneck. I used to worry about Federals as I'd buy a box and half of them seemed to not even be crimped shut, had pellets fall out of a few shells so I thought Remington always are crimped shut tight and at the price of these things I don't want to have to throw 2-3 shells per box away. Right on leech I thought geez I better hold the gun tighter and did but the same damage to the same spot on the same finger mercy. I have some nasty bone spur or something sticking out now. Honestly, Remington should put a recoil warning on that round, an older person or younger or anyone for that matter could easily get a finger broken the 1st blast with that stuff, I was caught way off guard, the 3.5" T's I just ran out of kicks much less, that Hypersonic it's such a fast jolt, it's vicious. I know other shells, etc kick a lot too, but if you want load a 3.5" BB Hypersonic and shoot straight up and you'll be 3" shorter after you shoot. smile Sorry Remington, I'm your most loyal fan, but cmon, who did they have test the stuff ? " The Big Show " ?

Right on Tyler, my dad said remember this, we competed a bit, each with a box of 3" T's. I dropped 17-25. Geese. My dad unfortunately Mr. I can lead em perfectly was 19-25. Dad asked how'd you do with that last 3.5" box well it was more 12-25. He's like there you go, why'd I ever switch, but never too late to switch back ! I like these topics some because I get residual questions answered, thanks guys !

muskybuck, if you dont want the extra cost of an auto or just prefer a pump like me, see if you can do a partial trade with a dealer for a browning (not sure of model) pump 10 ga. i shot my buddy's for the first time this wknd & the 3 1/2" 2s were barely more recoil than my 2 3/4 12ga 2s. and man is that gun letal at a distance! we let most of em decoy in so they were in range for me but he took a drake woody at least 70yds out and when we cleaned it, it had 6 pellets in the breast and at least 1 in the head.

Oh how I wished I threw the question out to you guys before giving it a go, never thought about the loudness, but my initial thought was yes that stuff is loud as ever also, but when you're shooting it it made it harder to notice, but I thought it and don't doubt it. Finger's a little better today but I have a troublesome bone bruise it's strange, kinda a red circle around it and then it's pure white in the middle and feels like I have a marble on that knuckle/finger. If I go this wkd it'll be the 3" T's in the 3" gun, I have 1 box left and I won't cringe on the recoil, heck that stuff may feel like nothing after last wkd. lol didn't get too many takers cmon 5 boxes guys.

stuff rips right through the feathers late season, bought some 3" 2's and bb's last year and loved it. didnt notice any recoil issues but, the crack of the bang however was a bit peircing to the ear. I wish I could find some more 3" stuff all I found was cases @ cabelas and dont need that many shells....

Assuming the 3" stuff tonka ? I would like to try the 3" load and see what it's like, load a T then a hypersonic then another T and see if that 2nd blast is different from the first and or if I get shell 3 out or not, this time of the year I rarely get to that 3rd as they are more cautious talking strictly geese, after much analysis last night I am going to sell both 3.5" Remington pump synthetic's and the 3.5" shells. I think the gun (actually me the shooter) has cost me more birds than I've gained, I don't swing it like a 3" pump, I'm getting more recoil sensitive also which is like a gun shy dog in my head, it's more mental than anything, but I won't be getting any younger either, thanks for the input and be careful if you buy a box of 3.5 Hypersonic and use a pump action.

FWIW here is a video from the iKam glases of me shooting my 10 Gold last weekend. Forget the poor quality of the video as there is no zoom but for 3.5 inch loads the gun doesn't jump much. The glasses are much better for fishing than hunting. The shots look like 60 yarders but it was actually about 30-35.

cool thanks for sharing, my 3.5" days are behind me, that hypersonic stuff wow, I couldn't believe it, my cousin fired a round also he was like geez what is that, he said his boots sunk about a foot in the mud after firing, it felt like a 3" double 00 buck with no recoil pad and then some. Yes I'm exagerrating some certainly, but it reslly packs a wallop.
