Iphone vs. Droid

I see android sort of taking over too. Idk if its really for the best but its nice to have options and full internet in phones too though.

Idk. My problem with android is that stuff doesnt always work as it should and updates are sometimes a fail. I have been dealing with a thunderbolt and I got to say while I love how fast it is, and having real web, it has had more glitches and issues than I care to deal with. Maybe I got a bad phone but it seems like the more I go along the less stable it is.

The draw to apple for me is that the stuff works good the first time and when they say something is going to happen it does. Sort of has me in a conundrum here as I am switching carriers next week. I like all the options and real internet I have with android but it would be nice to not deal with the quirks that android has too.

I work in IT and have since "97" and learned to avoid going to a new version of software as soon as it is available. Most the time software is released before all the bugs are worked out of it. Usually let them age for a while.

Recap of the Apple press conference:

Apple rolls out this polished up iPhone4 which means the Apple zombies burn their upgrade provision to get it because it's the latest and greatest and that's what they're programmed to do, then the iPhone5 comes out in the near future and the Zombie faithful pay the full un-subsidized price for the new one because, once again, the mother ship comes calling.

Priceless.

And it hasn't changed since it first came out. It might do more, might be faster, but it still looks like an Ipod Touch that makes phone calls to me. They can't change the design, the looks at all? Not even a little bit? Cmon. Love my Droid, gonna stick with it

Just got new phones and stayed with Verizon, who now sells Iphones by the way crazy, and we got a Bionic for my wife and some supposedly navy seal waterproof shock resisent one for myself. So far so good but I still think they are too slow. Cany wait to see what 4g will do.

I am switching from the HTC Evo to the iPhone 4s. To be honest, I can't wait to get rid of the EVO. HORRIBLE battery life (even with a giant extended battery), buggy, and really bad lag. I've had an iPad for about 3 months, and if the iPhone is half as good as the iPad, I'll be a happy camper.

I have been happy with my iphones to date, and I am not easy on phones. I have 3 of them on contract, and havent had any issues with any of them. I have had the 3g, 3gs, and iphone4. I more then likely will be updating the 3g to a 4s soon. I am not an Apple lover either, I just have good luck with their phones, and ipods. Other then that, I am not a fan of theirs.

I've owned both the "original" droid and currently own an Iphone4.

The original droid was nothing short of a nightmare (along with most of the droids and droid x2's in our company)....constant reboots and many apps not working correctly. This probably has been fixed with the newer droids. However we have began to migrate moreso to the iphones.

The iphone works...plain and simple. Everything is done through ITunes which allows you to backup and make changes right from your pc. Updates are also done through Itunes (USB cable) rather than having to go 3G or wifi for your OS updates.

I also felt the iphone seems to work better with our exchange server and also my personal email addresses. Skype video is nothing short of amazing.(Always had issues on the droid) With two cameras I was able to do both face to face video chat and at a simple tap of the screen, able to pan around and show my 3 yo daughter the landscape of Australia....while also being able to see her expression on her face.

As for "more expensive" for music and movies, it basically is the same for the most part. You need to buy your music anyway...whether it be CD or online. All my MP3's easily convert with Itunes. Movies seem to be the same also. (My buddy and I use handbrake)

Netflix worked better, along with youtube.

I run Itunes on my work PC, my work laptop, my home gaming PC and my wife's Macbook pro....no issues one bith with running itunes on a PC.

I am not saying an iphone is any better than a droid...it isn't a "Status" symbol to me...for me it works...and has been the best phone I have owned that has worked overseas and also locally. My wife will get her choice in December, but she has also been impressed with the iphone. (plus video facetime or skype from phone to phone is pretty neat)

Try out both phones and see which one you like. There are worse choices you could have to make...(like a Blackberry!!!)

This might be a dumb question but the new Iphone is only 3g, why wouldn't it be 4g? I love how fast my phone is for downloading.

The iPhones can suffer freezes, crashes and bugs just like Androids. Depends on how much you understand how to manage it. Just like any PC an advanced user will have much less trouble.

Now why ask 4G over 3G? 4G is not wide spread, battery life is still a concern. And 3G speed network is not optimized in the USA. When the ATT iPhone 4S is only capable of 14mbps hspa+ speeds while networks such as Tmobile can offer up to 42mbps hspa+ on 3G but advertize it as 4G.

So being able to use 14mbps on most watch is fake 4G to most people. ATT is actually trying to get Apple to allow the iPhone 4S to display a 4G symbol instead of 3G as a marketing scheme above Verizon/Sprint's version which doesnt support hspa+.

The reason it isn't 4G is Apple doesn't have room for another Qualcomm chip on the PCBs in an iPhone. They could do it, but they'd have to make the phone larger. Starting next year I know Qualcomm will be building the LTE connectivity right into the main SoC. Apple however doesn't use those SoC's, so I'm not sure when we'll see them move to 4G. However other phone makers should be able to trim down their offerings or throw in larger batteries.

The Razr runs Android 2.3.5 on a 960x540 screen. The Galaxy Nexus runs Android 4.0 on a 1280x720 screen. Otherwise they are fairly similar. For some reason the Galaxy Nexus has a barometer, which might actually help you out while fishing.

Turns out, Sammy added the barometer to help the device more rapidly acquire a GPS lock by delivering altitude coordinates to the required latitude and longitude GPS equation

Very cool!! That might be my next phone if it works on Verizon.

Quote:
Unlocking the phone is done through automatic face recognition via the front-facing camera. You just have to face the Galaxy Nexus, hold still for a moment, and the phone unlocks itself right into the homescreen

Fantastic!!
