For something different I would suggest kofte (ground meat) kebobs. Mix the hamburger with minced onion, salt, garlic, ginger, cumin, cinnamon, allspice, coriander, cayenne; add chopped parsley or cilantro. Mix until well blended, then form into small sausage shapes. Cover and refrigerate 1-12 hours (skewers are optional). Grill/pan grill, turning occasionally until done to your liking 6-8 minutes. Serve in pitas.

For an Indian flavor mix the burger with curry powder instead, and serve with naan and cucumber raita.

I grew up on Hamburger Gravy, was always one of my favorites. Now I make it a little easier:

1 lb hamburger

1 packet swedish meatball mix ...(McCormick's seasoning and sauce mix)

Mix most of the seasoning with hamburger and brown.

Make sauce mix on the side and combind with hamburger at the end.

top over mashed potatoes, we also like to have a can of corn for a veggie, wife puts a couple scoups on top of the gravy...

Could also add some fried onions and green peppers to spice it up....

The key is the McCormicks packet, very tasty smile

Nope, Ted, the cabbage rolls I was talking about are actually leaves of cabbage basically stuffed with 'burger among other things. No bread products involved.

I had never heard of a runza before this thread, but they sound pretty good. I guess coleslaw is a pretty standard topping for pulled pork sandwiches in the Carolinas...

Awesome stuff. I'll be keeping my eye on this thread. Keep em coming. Here is my recipe for cabbage rolls:

Cabbage Rolls

*This could be made as a casserole by shredding the cabbage and mixing in with meat mixture.

12 leaves cabbage

1 cup cooked white rice or uncooked minute rice

1 egg, beaten

1/4 cup milk

1/4 cup minced onion

1 pound extra-lean ground beef

1/2 pound Italian Sausage

1 1/4 teaspoons garlic salt

1 1/4 teaspoons ground black pepper

3 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce

3 tablespoon brown sugar

3 tablespoon lemon juice

3 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Boil whole cabbage (Steam) 5 minutes; drain.Peel off leaves. Careful not to tear

2. In large bowl, combine rice, egg, milk, onion, ground beef, sausage, salt, pepper, and small amount of tomato sauce.Place about 1/4 cup of meat mixture in center of each cabbage leaf, and roll up, tucking in ends.

3. In a small bowl, mix together tomato sauce, brown sugar, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce.Pour over cabbage rolls. Cover and cook at 350 for 1 hr.

I would keep it very simple.

1.5lbs Burger

1 slice bread (crumbed)

1 egg yolk

1 splash Worcestershire

1 clove of garlic (finely diced)

1/2 small red onion (finely diced)

A few turns or pepper and salt

Make into 8 thin patties, place a clump of blue cheese crumbles onto 4 or the patties and cover with the other 4.

Grill and cover with grilled onions on a bun. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it's really tasty!

OK. So for today I decided to go Swedish Meatballs - Semi Homemade. Left the 1 1/2 lb burger in the freezer and grabbed a bag of Schwans Frozen Italian Meatballs.

In a big bowl, combined this sauce:

1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup

1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup

1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk

1 tbls chopped fresh parsley

2 tbls Horseradish

1/2 pint Sour Cream

1 pkg fresh Mushrooms

2 cloves Garlic

2 tbls parm cheese

Dumped the sauce over the meatballs in the crock pot. Dinner at 6:00 with mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and biscuits. Took 10 minutes to throw together.

Pizza burgers! They are easy and the kids like them. Brown up the burger with some italian seasoning and garlic powder. Allow to cool for a bit and add a can of tomato soup and a bag of "pizza cheese". Put in the fridge for a few hours to allow the flavors to mingle. Spoon onto cheap burger bun halves and broil for 5-7 minutes or until brown.

Lots of good ideas here!!

What I made last weekend:

Cabbage hotdish

Brown burger and big onion, with some garlic cloves.

Chop up head of cabbage, use big roaster, it cooks down.

Pour two cans of tomato soup across top, also can of kidney beans.

Add browned burger.

Cook 1-1.5 hours at 350, stirring once half way thru.

Simple and delicious.

1 1/2 # of burger in baking pan

Top burger with a layer of green peas

Put 1 can of cream of one of the following (Celery, mushroom, chicken, or whatever) on top of the meat and peas.

Add another can of cream of chicken.

Bake somewhere between 300 and 450 depending on how hungry you are.

Top with shoe string potatoes (chips in a can) and cook until string potatoes are browned slightly.

Enjoy!

I call it Shoe String Hotdish!

Hmmm...This makes me remember my Mom's simple "goulash" recipe...

-brown hamburger in large skillet

-boil macaroni

-drain grease and add macaroni and 1 can tomato juice

-simmer and yell at kids to get to the table

-eat

Love Hot Dishes! Here's one I put together yesterday. Kind of a Shepards Pie:

In Dutch Oven:

Brown 1 1/2 lb burger with onion & garlic

Add can of corn (or fresh), can of green beans (or fresh) & mushrooms

Add can of tomato soup, 1/4 cup ketchup, couple squits of mustard, a couple of good shakes of Worchestershire and a large pinch of brown sugar. Cover this with a thin layer of Valveeta.

Cut up enough baby reds so when mashed will cover the dish about an inch thick. Boil the potatoes and add 1 egg, milk, butter, (sour cream and a little creamy horserasdish if you have it). Mash and top the casserole.

Bake for about a half hour or until it bubbles up the side of the potatoes. Serve with biscuts. It was awesome - no left overs.
