662LB bear shot in Orr

Recommended Posts

The likelyhood of it being close to shutte is good..

Not many people from florida know bear hunting.Theres a bit of public land next to it BUT its been haunted for years by 2 guides and I know of only a couple private land owners with bait sites.

Wonder if it was a guided hunt the article says it wasnt but still??

Because if it was,One of the guides that runs in that area and baits close to it sits on the board for the shutte.Seen his bait wagon on townline road a lot.... Hummmmmmmmm Just wondering.

Rearding the meat, an not being dressed out, its wasted. He shot it Sat. an brought it to a scale that could handle its size the next day on Sunday. Sorry but no bear can handle that time period an still be good to eat. Especially one that has that extreame insulation. Sad. Probably cant make a rug cause of hide slippage also. Probably only have the skull an it wont make book they say. Thats wat we get for being able to feed bears, wanton waste. Althou it was a choice to wait for a larger scale, the sheer size directley influenced the decision to wait an find a scale. Wat with this shutte place wally? dont know much about it.

The Shutte Sanctuary bears look nothing like real wild bears, just like the one pictured. Theyll tell you theres little human intervention in their "natural" diet.

Boar, its by Orr and it closes after the first of Sept. Look it up on the net and you'll see some pic of the slobs on there and most of them have names. This year there was one with a big skull that walked like it had arthoritis (sp). I dont think it will make the winter. I was going to offer my services and put it down for them so, the rest of the bears can get a bigger share of food.

Its another pay to veiw site that humanizes bears. Its roughly 13 miles out of Orr to the NW just before the REZ..I used to go there but couldn't gut listening to the bull.I have seen a bear that looks very much like that bag of blubber there...

They dump ton of food the day after they close and bear hunting opens.

I agree with ya Boar its not going to be good at all..

Yea its thier choice but to me its wanton waste doing that just to see what it weighs.... I would LOVE to see thier face "IF" they do eat it. bet who ever did the butchering was glad they held onto it whole that long..

Its a excellent example of what the huggers do to bears if it is from there.

Hooks is dead on.. They tell you theres little intervetion as some voluntier from chicago is dumping a scoop of food infront of a bear as they give ya speech on how you shouldnt do this at home.. They even have it posted on thier HSOforum YET THEY DO IT.. The feeding needs to stop. We need to adopt a similar law as Wi and other common sense states have in regards to "feeding". I mentioned automated feeders to them and got told it would take the warmth out of the demonstration.BOTH sites are doing NOTHING but prostituting bears for profit..

That is a big bear and congrats to the hunter.

According to the article the pic was taken at the Ash Trail Store on Sat. The scale there was not big enough. Clearly at that time the bear wasn't field dressed in the picture.

The bear was taken to the taxidermy in I Falls on Sunday where the bear was weighed. The article states that the bears weight was field dressed weight.

The article didn't say when the bear was dressed but then again the reporter probably didn't think there was going to be an internet CSI about the bear either. So lets assume that the bear was dressed shortly after the pic was taken and there is no waste.

I'll agree for my taste it isn't the best picture but I'd even guess that there are "better" pictures at the kill site that we might like better.

If it were my bear I'd like to have as many pictures as possible and some of the processing as well.

if so that it was scaled after dressed, the next day, to take it to another scale to have weighed, i cant help but assume that the hide still wasnt taken off till after the weighing. which is still bad an will produce bad meat an hide slippage. I cencerlyy hope that its ok, I have weighed bear several times with a small scale with only being able to weight portions at a time, hide, bone, meat, scrap, ect. an got a round about weight, doubt if this ws the deal here. Really not trying to take anything away from the hunter but, it looks like a bad ending.

Shute closed on Sept. 4.

I've been there twice, and one of those times spent the full day shooting (Canon shooting, not gun shooting), those bears from the ground among them. Definitely some really big fat hogs produced there. I'm not a bear weight expert, but we saw a couple bears in the refuge I thought would go over 500 lbs easy.

Several people who have been to Shute including one that works there have said the bear in the photo looks like a bear fed there that they call "Don Juan." I suppose they won't know until they determine whether or not he still visits next year, but the bear just looks obese, and that only generally happens when they are fed the same diet that makes people obese: [PoorWordUsage].
