Here's the story....I drew my first ever bear tag for area 51 this year. We started baiting and got stands set up on Aug. 21st. Came back the next weekend and baits were getting hit hard and during daylight. Rebaited and came back on Aug. 31st. Got up early to bait the 1st. Trail cams showed lots of bears coming in the day before during daylight so all looked good. I baited at 7:57 am, left and the first bear came at 9:21. The second bear came in at 2:08 and I got to my stand at 2:12 and spooked him off the bait. Bummer!!! I decided once I was in my stand that I would shoot the first bear that came in regardless of size. At 3:45 the red squirrels to my west started going crazy. I grabbed my bow and turned to the bait. About 10 seconds later, I could see a bear walking in. My heart jumped in my throat and I just focused on the front shoulder and nothing else. He came in broadside and stepped into my lane. I took my time and release the arrow and just cemented him right behind the shoulder. He roared took off and made it about 5o yds before doing the death roar. Not the biggest bear in the world (150 #, 121 # dressed), but i was very happy with my first bear. Ate the inside tenderlions that night and celebrated with the guys back at the cabin. Here are some pics from the trail cam from the day i shot my bear. Also pics of the bear. What a rush this whole experience was.!!!
