Coach Kill

I don't need to hop on the bandwagon hating Grey. He did alright for his first college start. When I coach athletes, I want to see their natural abilities show first and then I can coach up their deficiencies. What I saw from Grey as a QB was decent. What I saw from him as a runner was poor. He looked like he was running at half speed. He did gain some yards on his carries, but he wasn't the electric 2-way QB that we heard about.

Shortell looked good but he's got time to develop. I want to see how Grey develops first and let Shortell learn from the sidelines. He's got a taste of the action and hopefully it will inspire him to try his hardest to get the coaching staff's attention.

BTW - nobody mentioned how awesome Tinsley was on defense. He was the lone bright spot in the first half. He finished with 7 tackles, one for a loss, and two passes defended.

Gray's running was better today. Finally made it out to the Bank. Pretty sad how excited the staff, players, and fans were to beat Miami of Ohio. They just about blew it and never pulled away. Kill's got a long way to go but it's a small step. It just seems like with this group its one step forward, 2 steps backward.

Miami of Ohio was a nice victory...no, it's not like beating Ohio State but they were the MAC champs last year and that's a pretty decent football conference.

Grey was just a better athlete than anybody else on the field today. That will end quickly. His accuracy is god-awfull and the Gophs may have won the only winable game this year. If they get behind and need to pass...they're done.

I'm a Bison...played there 5 years... and also a Gopher fan. This game means WAY more to the Bison than it does the Gophs. 99% of the Bison got passed over because they were either too short, slow, or otherwise. They (Bison)will show up and kick the hell out of the Gophs for spite and spite only...it's a great motivator.

My thoughts from being at the game yesterday:

- the O-line is terrible. They can't move D-II teams off the line on running plays so far this year. Pass blocking is slightly better.

- Gray played more naturally and dare I say actually showed a little speed on his runs. However, he reads defenses too slow and therefore it takes him too long to make it through his progressions. Therefore he often takes off a little too late if nothing is there. He doesn't throw into tight coverage too often. Could be better but he shows good caution for a first-year QB.

- the defense is sloppy in their assignments, gap awareness, and zone awareness. Players are often too far out of position allowing the offense to make plays. The coaches will correct this but it will take time.

At least we won't go winless this season! Go Gophers!!

Nice win by the Gophers yesterday, exciting finish. Badger game wasn't on so I was flipping between that game and the Nebraska/Washington game.

My opinion, the Gophers don't have a lot of talent and Coach Kill hasn't got "his" players in place yet but they played hard for him and pulled out a nice win. Give Kill a couple more years and he'll have the Gophers back to respectability.

Nothing Gray has done yet shows he is a QB. He is not decisive and makes poor decisions. All he can do is throw dump passes and half of those he overthrows. He can't win the game with his arm. I still think he is better served switching to WR, were he can better utilize his size/speed/hands. That's the only shot he's got if he wants to play at the next level, but he has to want to do it. I think at some point they will make the change, but who knows when that will happen.

In general the D looks very sloppy and indecisive. I am sure the new system has something to do with that, but the coaches should be keeping it fairly simple this early in the learning process.

Disappointed in the O line, thought they would be better. Thank goodness they supposedly have some good young guys in the program for the future, just not ready yet. Kirkwood looks like the best RB on the roster. Bennet hasn't been the same since his injury, and he was only slightly above average before that.

I see the goph's getting better as the season goes on and they get comfortable in the new systems, but they have to play some very good teams. They are going to bet rolled by Nebraska.

I think coach Kill is correct in staying with Gray at QB, he is the best athlete that they have and is a load to bring down. I think the big difference in his play against Miami as compared to the first two games is that they game planned for him to use his running skills. He is not a typical college passing QB. They need to work on his passing skills each week, but feature his running. If and it will be when, they get down by 2 or 3 scores then move him to wideout and give the freshman some snaps.

Let's face it, with the Gophers O and D line, plus lack of D backs it's going to be a long year. No sense in wasting Gray's last two years and getting Shortell sacked 5 times a game. I'm a Gopher fan, went to the bank and saw the Aggie game. We will likely get 1, maybe 2 more wins and the Badger and Cornhusker games will be brutal.

How can you hate the UofM? They are the lovable losers of the Big10. It's like hating the kid with a debilitating disease!

LOL!

Heard that this was Coach Kill's worse seizure yet, and that he continued to have them at the hospital, which is why it took longer for him to join the team vs his previous seizures. They are working to get his meds figured, but there are no guarantees. I like him, hope they figure it out for his sake, and for the kids sake.

I didn't expect the Gophers to win or anything today, but I did expect them to get a few first downs against a Michigan team with a shaky defense.

Here's hoping Kill can begin re-building this team's confidence in itself as a springboard for next season. This year is going to be long and painful.

58-donut.

Michigan outgained Minnesota 384-69, averaging nearly 10 yards per play in the first half. That's almost as bad as McNabb throwing for a whopping total of 39 yards against the Chargers. Minnesota didn’t take a snap in Michigan territory until there was less than a minute left in the third quarter.

I haven't seen a beating like that since the time someone shoved a banana down the front of my pants and then turned a monkey loose.

uff-da.
