How close?

I'm kinda venting here but how close is too close for another boat to be? It happened again yesterday on the same lake, same guy. His panfish honey hole happens to be a big bass honey hole. Plop goes the anchor about 10 ft from me. I voiced my opinion rather loudly to my fishing partner about how there is 400 acres of lake and this guy has to fish right next to us. Nothing. Must be deaf. We decided to leave the spot which I guess is good cause we ended up slaying the big bass on another spot. So, how close is too close?

What I have learned is that a lot of guys just don't know any better. They honestly think that fishing side by side with one another with an anchor is no big deal. I have had it happen to me on numerous occasions where someone will fish where I am just because they see a shinny bass boat on a spot. Its like they automatically think that since I look like I know what I am doing I must be on fish. I used to get all worked up about it until I decided to let them have it and come back later. Most of the time they dont know how to catch them anyways and coming back later usually works out when they leave.

Similar thing happened to me yesterday I was fishing a weed line and a guy cut me off rather close. I knew this weed line was holding fish and they were chasing baitfish. At the time I was having a hard time getting any strikes, had a couple hit a spook and caught one on a worm. Rather than competing with this guy I went to one of other spots and came back in an hour. I then had the weed line to myself and I slayed em’

400 acres? So what. I was up at LOW one year and they fish for walleyes by drifting, trolling or anchoring. They lake covers what, 1/3 of the North American continent and has like 3.5 walleyes per sq. foot and tens of guys are parked within boat lengths of each other or drift within feet of each other on some spot. Trolling looks like a game of "Chicken" out there. Like I said, I was up there once.

I think that does happen now days, that would take away the reason why I love to fish. It is like a puzzle and I am trying to put together all the pieces so I can be successful on the water. Stealing GPS coordinates from another angler defeats this.

I've had that issue. What about the issue where people keep following you around the lake? Just when you think you've lost them, oh here they come, right behind you. Its especially annoying when they purposely cast right to your boat thinking there's a fish there or something. That kind of [PoorWordUsage] me off, dude casted his lure within 3 feet of my boat. Even more annoying when recreational boats blow by you at full speed. Aren't they suppose to be at least 150 feet away from you? Cause they sure weren't...more like 50 feet.

I was out on a small south metro lake last night. Throwing topwater frogs back in the slop in a cut about 75 ft wide and mayby 200 ft deep. I pulled out 2 pigs and missed several more. All of a sudden a guy in a plastic boat with a trolling motor on it, and I had seen him watching me, went along side one edge pulled 40ft in front of my boat and anchored. I loudly said you gotta be kidding me. I really wanted to turn my Ranger around, raise up the motor and cover him in slop!! But, I was the better person and left nicely!

I might be the minority on that one Doufish2. Ive had several people in either oar powered , wading or electric powered around me. And I have always looked at it like I have a motor to go wherever I want. They dont , their limited on where they can go so I say nothing. Ive actually told them go ahead Ive got lots of water to fish. They have always been appreciative.

Was it right he got in front of you? Maybe not but Id give him the spot. NOW if he was in a boat capable to move around anywhere on the lake, then I would be p----- off for sure.

He went around my boat and anchored where I had been casting an pulling in some nice fish. Don't get me wrong, he has every right to every inch of the lake, but common sense says you don't anchor where someone is casting.

i had a guy PM me the other day and he lives out around minnetonka. as we were talking he made some comments to the rude behaviour out on that lake in particular. well i rarely fish that lake[maby 3 times total], and not because of the behaviour but it's just too busy for me. this guy travels with his wife up to the arrowhead just to escape from the hectic days and behaviour of some of the fishermen. good luck.
