The best Walleye reel....

Recommended Posts

I am looking to purchase a new walleye reel. I will be using it primarily on a 7 foot rod and am looking for your opinions. If you were to buy the best walleye reel for the money (price doesn't matter), what would it be?
Thanks all for your time and knowledge.

I recommend the Abu Garcia T1000F. If you can't find the Garcia I would buy a Daiwa,or a Shimano Symetre.

Love to use a baitcaster for lindy rigging & absolutley love my Quantum for that, energy I think it's called. For spinning reels I have a Shimanos Symetry & a Sahara I believe they are, both are fine reels. I prefer the top drag systems over the rear myself, they just seem smoother.

HERE ARE MY TOP THREE CHOICES!
1. SHIMANO STELLA (DON'T TELL YOUR WIFE YOUR GOING FISHING WITH STELLA, ESPECIALLY IF SHE FINDS OUT WHAT YOU PAID!)
2. SHIMANO SUSTAIN
3. SHIMANO STRADIC

THESE ARE ALL SHIMANO'S TOP OF THE LINE, ALTHOUGH A LITTLE PRICEY THEY HAVE EXCXEPTIONALY SMOOTH DRAGS AND ARE VIRTUALLY TROUBLE FREE.

Well... You said price is no object so I can't help you there. I do know I've spent a little bit of money on my little Shimano Spirex reels for my ice rods and I absolutely couldn't be happier. They are fantastic reels.

Shimano,

Although I don't spend a ton of money on them, between my son and I we have about 25-30 spinning reels, including the one's on our icefishing jig rods, for my trolling rod's I have ABU Garcia 5000D's. The most I've spent on any Shimano spinning reel was $79.99, most of them are around $49 and the only problem I've had was breaking the handle when I stepped on it.

I have a Quantum PTi20 that I absolutely love. Very quick reel that has very instant anti-reverse. I would definitely check one out before making a purchase. I also like all of the Shimanos mentioned above. They just plain hold up over long periods of time. Very well built.

I'll have to second anyone that said Shimano. Good quality in all price ranges.
However, my favorite right now has to be my Pflueger President Spinning. No reverse clutch, smooth as heck, and is pretty dran good for the $$.

Cranks, Okuma Magda 15DX.

Rigging, Pinnacle Absolute Deadbolt.

Jigging, the beautiful Pinnacle Alyssa CR.

Ice, Silstar Tiny's.

None over $100, best reels for the money in my book! I can buy a ton, and haven't had a problem yet!

I use a Shimano 'Corsair' for most of my live bait rigs and trolling small plugs. I think it is a very smooth reel especially the drag system. For jigs I used some Shimano Spirexs. Realy decent reels for the $$$. I just ordered a Pfluger Trion and I am excited to see how it handles.

Just like "everybody" else says.... SHIMANO is the way to go... The Stradic spinning reel is great, the Curado SF baitcaster is also quality as is everything they make.
I do believe Pflueger is making a little comeback, talk to the guys at Gander Mtn or wherever and pick there minds.

I too have heard Gander Mt sales staff pushing the Pflugers. Wonder if there is a special incentive or something.

From what I heard at another Sporting Goods store in town, Pfluger is real popular down south and in Florida. They are just starting to make a push up this way.

One thing I like about having all Shimano Sahara's is I can get all sorts of different line types and weights on the various spools and can swap out spools fast.

Cabela's has last year's model of the Shimano Symetre, which is a step below the Stradic, on sale for $59 which is the same price as some of the less expensive models are regularly. Your choice of the 1000 or 2000 models.

Another vote for the Symetre. I have these on just about all of my rods and have yet to have to replace bail springs. I prefer Shimano for the simple fact that parts are easy to get, and most pepair shops have them on hand.
I had some Okumas and they are great until you need parts. A few of the repair shops are starting to get the parts for them.

Any one use those Quantums that have the magnetic bail? I am thinking of adding one to my Christmas list this year.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
