    Morson Duck Hunting Reports

Hey Bennelli Dude, did you get into any of them ducks you called me about. Wild Thing and I almost made the trip...he just waited to long to get papers from his wife...I was then comitted to babysit my grandaughter...couldn't get out of it...[PoorWordUsage]! Oh well next year we are going to see if we can stay that first week in November as well. I only hunted 32 days and that is not nearly enough! Take 'Em Club did inflict a fair amout of damage during the month of October tho! Thank goodness for the Ringers! Hope you have a nice Thanksgiving and Holiday season...Lil' Bluebill...Remember...when my Bennelli barks there is meat on the table...Take care...phil
  3. Hey Brian...you are using my quote eh..when the benelli barks there is meat on the table...saw the pictures you sent John...(Contact Us Please)...next year we gotta stay longer...just got a taste of the good bill shoothing on the Friday before we closed...only got to hunt 33 days at the take em' club this year...had to book to many trips in Sept. to help pay for my new etec..maybe Rich will let us winterize the cabin and stay a week or two more next year. Glad you had a good shoot in SD...missed the usual great food at the end of the year party...not chasing deer...still dreaming about bills in the snow...oh well...drive safe and see ya this winter maybe...

    Cell coverage in Morson

Hey Brian...anyone try Cell One yet...thats what most of the take em and scaup boys have...also I see Tom has a shooting partner with him now...of course he went to my training school first ...didn't get a deer but we got six total...looking forward to some fishing...remember I don't measure ice in inches I measure in feet... ...later...phil
  8. Hey Bill, how are you...seasons treating you well I hope...great duck season...no deer tho...spent a lot of time in my stand but no buck...oh well great time at the shack...we got six...to your question...I have a final approach pro-guide...big...comfy...very sturdy...doesn't fold in half...just goes flat...I really like it...take care...think the ice will hold me yet?...tc...phil
  9. Interesting...I started with a 30"r with a full chokeway back when (47 years ago) I first started hunting ducks...went to a 28"mod for a long time...then went to 26"mod when I found I was just a little slower than when I was a youngster...works great and am still figuring out what to shoot when I am 90...really short and light...lol

    Black Lab help

HARDWATER...HOW OLD IS YOUR DOG?...MOST LABS USED FOR HUNTING SHOULD BE FORCE BROKE JUST AFTER THEY GET THEIR PERMANENT TEETH...THATS THE EARLIEST BUT YOU CAN DO IT LATER...THIS WILL ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM YOU ARE NOW HAVING...HE WILL PICK UP ANYTHING AND NOT DROP IT...YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF BUT TAKES A LITTLE TIME AND NEEDS TO BE DONE PROPERLY...MY RECOMMENDATION IS TO TAKE HIM TO A PRO...CAN GET IT DONE IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS...GOOD LUCK
  12. For all you field trialers and trainers here is what happened at this years nationals. Local guy's dog wins the big one. Congratulations go out to Gary McIlwain, whose dog FC-AFC Dewey's Drake of Moon River won the National Retriever Championship In Montgomery, Texas on November 13. Drake was handled in the Championship by Bill Eckett of Blackwater Retrievers. Drake, a yellow male who is six years old, has won about 100 all-age points in his career and has qualified for the National Amateur Championship in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005. This year he was a finalist, an honor in itself. He has qualified for the National Open Championship in 2002, 2003, 2004. And now the winner!!! This is a great accomplishment for Gary and is very well-deserved because of all his years of dedication to our sport of training and trialing retrievers. Gary is a member of the Iron Range Retriever Club and lives in Calumet. You can follow the National competition on the internet on Working Retriever Central <www.working-retriever.com/04nrc/index.html> and the American Kennel Club <www.akc.org>. On the AKC site click on the National Retriever Championship. The AKC site has some great photos of Drake on Friday and Saturday.

    blind retrieves?

Scout, you had some good advice on sources. Lardy is one of the best and Wolters is and will be for a long time to come a standard always worth reviewing. Remember that teaching a dog to handle to blind retrieves is the single most time consuming and patience requiring component of a dogs lifelong training. I have seen to many people with really good retrievers get to this part of the training and expect way to much from the dog way to soon! Be patient and your good dog will be even better! Good Luck!
