I just checked 5 min ago. I was selected for area 24. Question though. This was the first year I applied and they have me as a preference 2? Shouldn't I be a 1 as I just got selected?

You should get one preference point for each time you correctly apply including the current year...so all first-time applicants get one point for applying...that preference stays with you if you are not drawn and accumulates each time you are unsuccessful in the drawing...If it is the very first time you applied for any zone, (including preference only), you should have just one point...if, however you have applied anytime in the past for any zone and not been selected that point stays with you, even if it was 10 years ago...So, have you ever applied before?

You will loose all your preference when you "purchase" your license...if you are drawn and don't purchase your license...you will lose the one point for this year, but retain any points accumlated in the past.

What realy is the deal with no quota? Is it the bear density or the lack of public land, never really been that far up northwest before. If it was that easy everyone would be up there.

Its bear density, we just dont have the numbers that qouta areas do, 22,000 plus bears in MN an most of them in qouta. The further east towards the line ya go the better the numbers. thats why in the last five years ive been reaching out towards that area. Its mostly private land to but has hidden tracts of state land here an there which can be reasearched, but alot of the locals hit that too so it can be really tough. Boar

Boar, whats up. Maybe if things go good and baiting looks good up there I can come up and bring my grandson to hunt. He also didnt get drawn in 26. I know guys that applied this year that got drawn. This was his second year. Why have prefrance points if they dont suit thier purpose, right?? Let me know or call me and maybe we can figure it out.. (57)
