Bear Lottery To Be Rerun

Recommended Posts

Hold your horses there people. The DNR made a mistake and needs to re-run the bear lottery. From the KSTP HSOforum:

Minn. DNR to Rerun Lottery for Bear-Hunt Permits

Hunters who think they've already received a Minnesota bear-hunting permit for this year will have to wait a little longer for confirmation.

The state Department of Natural Resources is rerunning the lottery for awarding permits. It says an error led to incorrect content being posted on the agency's HSOforum.

That may have led some hunters to believe they've already been awarded permits. But the results may change.

The DNR says new lottery results will be posted online within a few weeks. Successful hunters will also be notified by mail next month.

The agency says the problem arose when 2009 data were used to determine hunter preference levels, not the most current 2010 data. As a result, the permit winners were incorrectly selected

Wow, just read that on the web site too, if you recall last year they had issues also informing people they were not drawn when they actually were...nice computer system!! Well good for those who were not drawn, I guess bad for many of us who were and probably won't be the second time around...only a government agency would screw up two years in a row...

Well pretty sure some of us will be hosed right or wrong and lose em for sure. I just wish I wouldn't have started my plans and spent last few days thinking I was drawn. complete joke on dnr part shouldn't be this hard, well good luck to all.

I don't bear hunt, but I can understand the frustration as the turkey lottery works more less the same way. Mistakes happen and it sounds like they are trying to make it right. 2009 data was mistakenly used for preference level rather than 2010. It sucks to lose your permit, but is also sucks to not have your preference level count. 2c

Well I applied and was not drawn in 2009, that was the 1st time I applied. You think I would have had a preference point then and would have been drawn this year. I wasn't drawn and probably still won't be drawn. Just have wait for the new results.

This has created some confusion as hunters are already booking hunts and making plans...sounds like they had the same blunder with the turkey tags.

In my opinion it may be time for an internal audit to find the problem as it appears to be consistent.
