New Bait bucket and boat sticker laws to take effect (AIS)

then the question is what's next? this law is basicly useless because there will still be water in the boat even when the plug is pulled. is it a big deal to take some water along if you want to change it to take minnows home? no. is it hard to pull the plug from your boat? no. take the weeds off [the ones you can see}? no. i will tell you what is hard. i find it hard to believe this is the end of stuffed shirts dreaming up new "free stickers" and procedures until they have installed washing stations at every boat landing or banning fishing all together with a boat. for those are the only way you can stop the spread, plain and simple. good luck.

I am not sure what is next. The problem I think resides with todays society. We need to make new laws all the time so people know what is wrong and what is right. Take cell phones for instance. Did you ever think they would need a law to prevent you from texting and driving? It is common sense not to do that but many people threw common sense out the window and texted while driving. Hence the new law preventing people from doing this. We were told for years to remove the weeds from your boat after landing but some guys just didn't think they had to. Well you guessed it, we had to institute a law requiring people to or they will be fined.

I don't have all the answers thats for sure. I believe anything we can do to prevent the spread is going to help the state and the lakes in the long run.

Well I am off for a long fishing weekend and I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Frightening to see that people shrug their shoulders at the dumbing down of America...pathetic, actually.

But then again, those people were probably early adopters of that program anyway... crazy

i think it's more frightening that people find stuff like a sticker to be such a big deal.

Failure to display the decals on watercraft will be a petty misdemeanor after Aug. 1, 2014

My sticker will be applied on July 31st, 2014. It will be gloriously displayed inside the baitwell so I never have to look at it.

<--- See location

Somebody has to attempt to keep the powers-that-be in line.

The sheep won't.

Pretty warm today, have you been sheared yet?

If I had a 20+ thousand rig I wouldn't want any ugly a$$ stickers on it either.

Texting and driving...we don't need a law, we need to let nature run its course.

The dumber people in the states get the more 'laws' we employ. Soon these Idiots will stub their toes, and it will be illegal to walk fast.

I'm just sick of new laws for to the dumbest people on earth. We're pretty much making darwinism illegial.

I will put the sticker on and go fishing.

No real big deal to me at all. My fish and bait will go in the cooler's.

Pull the plug on the livewell and boat. Pretty simple.

If many would have pulled the weeds of thier trailers when they had the chance to help out with stopping the spread of this, we may not have these laws now.

No, many would not check for weeds and now look where you are.

It was brought on to some degree by noncompliance by a fair amount of fisherman because they felt they did not have to.

Small sticker, I really could care less.

Unless you or your family are on the receiving end of "Nature Running Its Course" Then darwinism doesn't look so good.

My boat has all kinds of stickers on it already. None have ever given me previous concern. One more won't make any difference to me.

What is of concern to me is Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia (VHS). If VHS ever gets out of control, a silly sticker will be the least of our problems for those of us who love to fish.

you guys do realize the purpose of the sticker is already working, right?

just like a beer ad during the baseball game - puts that little seed in your head that you need a beer.

little stickers and lots of biotching - puts that little seed in your head that you need to pull the plug and pick weeds.

i think the great majority of fishermen have been doing that for years without the stuffed shirts help. i would like to put a huge sticker on their desks that says "BE PRO-ACTIVE INSTEAD OF THE LAZY RE-ACTIVE MENTALITY". good luck.

I fished my favorite lake up in Duluth the past 2 weekends. On fishing this lake my entire life prior to this weekend, I had been checked by a DNR officer one time. These past 2 weekends, I was checked by DNR three times at the boat launch on that same lake. They are definitely ramping up enforcement and awareness. It sure would be nice if the DNR officers had this type of presence at some of the shipping docks/ports checking the ships for ballast water treatment before they got to the dock to load up in the Duluth harbor and dump hundreds of thousands of gallons of water FULL of invasive species into our waters. I will pull my plug (like I always have done) and make sure I am not bringing water from lakes to other lakes via bait buckets, but it doesn't make any sense to me that they are not trying this hard to fight the ballast water treatment. It is an extremely huge double standard

The problem is that "it's just one more". One more tax, one more fee, one more sticker...

It will continue as long as we allow it to continue. When will it end? When we have no more money or no more room to put another sticker? By then it's too late and we've given them everything we have.

$500 boat or $50,000 boat...it doesn't matter.

This is not about vanity.

It's about principle.

very well said. none of those stickers were "free". none of those stickers changed my behaviour launching my boat or hitching it back up. my ethics have done all of these things at no expense to the tax payer. parents can and should teach their kids ethics on the water and in the woods and in life in general. stuffed shirts in the leglislature cant mandate that one bit. good luck.

Are you guys talking about the sticker the DNR puts on your trailer or some other sticker? Ave asked bait dealers all around the state as well as other fishermen and they have no idea what sticker i'm talking about.
