Chad Luebker
Hello - Now that we have our new paver fire pit/patio area I am searching for something to help keep the mosquitoes away. I know a few years ago we purchased this brick that you throw in the campfire and I felt like it worked pretty well. However, it was purchased at a hardware store that is now closed and I can't find them on the internet or a store. If anyone has any good products they have used please let me know. Thanks,Chad
itchmesir
how about planting Citronella?
LwnmwnMan2
We used to use Mosquito Beater which we bought at the local feed mill. There are also garlic based chemicals you can spray with some effectiveness as well.
Steve Foss
Chad, sounds like some nice evening ahead chillin on the patio. We like mosquito beater, too. Been around awhile, but it still works. We even used it a couple years back at my daughter's wedding at our lake cabin and it did the job well. Not sure it's the kind of thing I'd want to invest in every night of the week, however. bassmann77
Get a few cans of Raid Yard Gard or invest in one of the propane foggers. They are the most effective and it uses the same chemical we use that treats the entire Twin Cities Actually it has more of the active ingredient than what we use. Just spray it about 30 minutes before you bring out the family and friends and it will provide treatment for the evening.
reinhard1
your right on that one. i use the propane fogger when i'm camping and before outdoor activities in the back yard. good luck.
Jim Almquist
If it is a calm evening a ThermaCELL works great. The catfish guys bragged it up so I gave it a try and they really do work.
Dylan33
Does ThermaCELL cover a big enough area to protect everyone around a campfire? Maybe use 2 or 3 at once? I have heard great things about thermaCELL, and plan on trying it out this year.
Jim Almquist
My guess would be the closer you are to the unit the better. We had 4 people sitting around a table with the cell in the middle and all of us were around 4' from the table and it worked great. I just wonder if the heat from the fire would pull the scent away. B. Amish
thermocell also has a bigger lantern model for about $35 says it covers 15'x15'.
pureinsanity
if there was no wind, and you sat in about a 15 foot circle I would say yes. your best bet is to have a couple of them. with a big enough or warm enough fire. the skeeters might just stay away
CJH
We use a few of the RAID Mosquito Repellent lanterns and they seem to help.

gundy89
absolutely swear by thermacell. I use them deer hunting in an area that you couldn't even be in without one. You can litteraly watch them hit the zone and stop. (slow days in the stand) Might need a couple for the fire but it's worth it.
