King of the Cats 2011

Jakob and I fished from 1200 to 1500 on the Mississippi River out of Dayton. Launch was in good shape, the river upstream was high but fishable, water temp was 36 degrees. Weather was beautiful - sunny, mid 50's, light breeze out of the WNW. We tried shad and nightcrawlers with no luck. Twins got hammered by Toronto. Except for the Twins it was a fun day - got my first SKUNK out of the way. I'm ready to go again - it was great to be on the water.

Steve,

I got skunked also. I went out and tried from 3:30PM to 6:15PM. Started at Otsego county park and ended up at montissippi park back in monti. I think with the monti nuke plant on a 45 day scheduled outage right now hasn't helped. the water is running colder because of this.

I caught a channel cat on the first but I figured I wouldn't waste Darren's time with a 12 incher. Didn't bother with girth smile. Then it started snowing and raining so I stopped by the casino and my luck did not improve. Things should warm up soon though. I guess I missed my chance to be the leader though.

The Channel cats entries are starting to roll in little by little. For those of you out there catchin em. Nice job!

I'm looking forward to giving away one of the Baitcasting reels at the end of the month to 1 lucky winner!

Well, the entries have been coming in slowly but surely. Just over 20 channels and 1 flat have been entered so far with about 12 people qualifying to win the new fishing reel as of right now.

About a week and a half left to get in on the action for April.

I plan on doing a drawing for the reel on Sun 5/1.

Good Luck

Well, we officially went over the 100 fish entered mark today. That's a pretty good start!

Some very nice channels have been entered so far and a finally starting to see a smattering of flatheads coming in too.

Don't forget, you need to have 2 fish total entered to qualify for May's drawing, and congrats to Ryan A for winning the Ming Yang Baitcasting reel. I actually added a few more new prizes the other day so be sure to check that out.

Special Thanks to Bobbymalone!

As always, all the details are updated regularly on the King of the Cats HSOforum.

Kewl DT! Looking good and I would say it is getting close to "that time" once again. That time in the sense of your Captain or his/hers first mate telling you to cast right under "that" willow branch and be ready. wink At $4.00 a gallon, man you find yourself looking closer and closer to that "sweet spot" within the window of opportunity. grin Gas never seems to drop this time of year. frown

Yeah I hope it works out for someone. Like I told DTRO, I bought that on impulse when Moore's Bait Shop was going out of business for waaaaaay cheap. I didn't need it, but thought I would use it. A year later it's still sitting in the rod rack.

So I thought about where I could find it a good home. A KOTC prize will be great fate for it.

About 90% of what I know about cattin' came from the folks on this forum so this is my chance to pay it back.

LOTS of movement in the leaderboard the past few nights. Heck our boat alone leapfroged each other several times. smile

Some great pics can be found in the KOTC gallery. HOGS smile

Very cool DT. smile 402 fish is a huge number. Just imagine all non-up-gradables being tossed back by KOTC caters.

Catfishing for me did not happen this year. Barley have a handful of trips in for the season. With the irons I have already in the iron, the hectic water levels, I just could not get into the grove this year of driving down, no matter what, 2-4 weekends during May, June, July. Hopefully next year is my year during catting time to relax, dive in and feel that feeling of driving home at 10:00am after seeing a huge fish boated. Nothing on earth compares! smile Also it is very cool to know that the KOTC is holding strong, gaining good ground and will be ready and waiting when a guy can jump back in.

Thanks goes out to Darren and Brian for all the hard work. smile

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
