There are plenty of other threads where people can get their kicks bashing the natives for all the fishing problems in the world.

More to the point, I do have an issue with the 2-line bill without any additional harvest restrictions. People can talk “a limit is a limit” all they want, but the fact is most people won’t catch a limit most times out no matter how good they are. But allowing multiple presentations (both bait & depth) will increase success rates - otherwise why do people even want 2 lines? More successful fisherfolks equals more fish taken over the course of a season.

I understand there is some hypocrisy over 2 lines in the winter and only one in the summer. But let’s get real, in the summer you can work an entire lake or shoreline in very little time with very little effort. In the winter, you’re fishing down an 8 or 10 inch hole. Sure, some of the most hardcore run and gunners will pop 50+ holes and try to cover an entire lake, but they’re the exception, not the rule.

I would be much more comfortable with a 2-line provision if there was a reduced harvest quota for 2-lines.

I am pretty sure that the proceeds go to a general fund and out of that general fund I am sure there are lakes stocked that are netted....but if it makes you feel any better the money that YOU use to buy the stamp will only be used to stock lakes that aren't netted....Thanks haha couldn't help myself

My bet is that the 2 line bill, along with other DNR related bills, will all be rolled into one omnibus bill. The real fight will be in the NR committee, and in the conference committee since there is no Senate bill. If everything is rolled into one bill it will force legislators to vote for 2 lines whether they want to or not. You can also be sure the fee increase will be in there. You want a fee increase you have to vote for 2 lines. You want 2 lines you have to vote for the fee increase. BTW the DNR can't add a fee for using 2 lines. That has to be done at the legislature. Right now the bill only says that an angler can use 2 lines to take fish. there's no fee included. It doesn't even mention that the Commissioner, may, by rule allow two lines, so the DNR can't really say you can do it here but not there. Although there may be something in the special regs language that allows the DNR to limit the methods used.

I still think that with all the technology today, the 2 lines allowed in the winter and not in the summer has to be the biggest hypocrisy in the MN regs book.

The DNR didn't come up with the reg Some people got a legislator to run it through.

From what ive read the DNR has been opposed to the 2 line rule. I am totally against it as well. I do keep most of the fish i catch, im not a "meat hog" though. I take what i want to eat and thats it. my freezer never has a limit of anything in it.

Not to offend anyone, but all those in favor of the law are just being selfish. You all just want to catch more fish, but of all the posts ive read on here, no one seems to bring up the fact that C&R kills fish. There is a hooking mortality ,no one can deny that, however the percentage will always be debated.Even as low as 1%, (i beleive its higher) think of all the fish killed state wide?

Keep it at 1 line, teach the "meat hogs" about conservation, limit C&R as much as you can, this will preserve the fishery we have. i hope every one who agrees with me will write, email, or call thier legislators and get this stopped. THANK YOU

D am n Straight! I want to catch all the fish I can. Selfish....guilty, I guess. I'm just as "selfless" when it comes to harvesting and keeping my (and yours) kids future in mind.

C&R kills fish?? lol. I keep a great MINORITY of the fish I catch. IF I catch one that's I think has a chance of not making it, it goes in the box.

Bottom line, some of us like to fish, and fish all day long / weekend long... not just enough long enough to get a meal. I don't understand "ya...we filled out in an hour and went home!!"

Thanks for your view, pete. I respectfully disagree with your view and reasons for your view. good luck....

I hear ya DTRO!

I can fish 2 and 3 lines in Wi. does that make me a meat hog? Get serious man! A 2 line limit in MN. will not hurt anything. Wi. has great fishing and has had 2 lines for a long long time and in parts of Wi. 3 lines is the norm. Fishing is still very good in those areas.

The hooking mortality argument is no different than those who were against the concealed carry law when they said "there will be blood running in the streets!" if the law was passed.

Step over any dead bodies on your way to work today? I didn't.

i also dont see the big deal with using 2 lines. why is winter any different? gps, 4 wheelers, snowmobiles, cars, and trucks will get you almost anywhere along with your two feet. depth finders and gps chips will find you fish and structure just as if in a boat. results of your catch can be fluctuating with the weather and pressure systems just like open water.

personaly, if a two line license was available, i dont know if i would buy one just because i'm out there for more reasons than just fishing. but for those who want to soak a minnow while jigging, i dont have a problem with it. i have to chuckle a bit when i hear that catch and realease kills fish. maby in some cases, however the only remedy for that would be to keep everyting you catch or dont fish at all.

i would predict if a two line licence was available there would be changes in regulations for those who buy one, but there would be little effect on the resource. as said before, wisconsin still has one and i dont see that changing. when it comes to people who fish a lot, for the most part they are people with good fishing ethics. they are also an asset to our economy by their travel and use of a variety of products and lodging and campsites. hopefully this passes and we can move on. good luck.

I honestly don't understand what the problem is with fishing with two lines if the limits are not going to change. Here is why I don't have a problem with two lines. 1.If the fish are not biting...the fish are not biting, you could use 12 lines, makes no difference. 2. People that are going to poach and cheat are always going to poach and cheat regardless of some "two line only" rule, they poach and cheat now with only one line. 3. Adding an extra fee is a bounch of [PoorWordUsage], why would I bother to pay more for an extra line if the limits don't change? makes noooo sense what so ever..just some greedy ba's trying to make a buck off the sportsmen....again
