zepman
Amakumara would be a nice pick as would one of the top defensive ends. Injuries in our secondary have really made this position about as important as any heading into this draft.
PurpleFloyd
Lets start this up again. All the latest mock drafts have the Vikes taking Prince Amukamara in the first and Locker, if he makes it past Washington, in the second round. Picking Amukamara would enable Cedric Griffin to move to safety supposedly. What's everybody think? If locker goes before 12 and Amakamura is on the board we need to take him. Then we can take Stanzi in the 2nd and be set.
creepworm
Most mock drafts that I have looked at have Locker going in the first. According to the "experts" at cbs sports the vikings will take a d end in the first. Either Da'Quan Bowers or Cameron Jordan.
Scott K
Quote:Two people with knowledge of the situation tell the Washington Post that the Vikings are "indeed" one of the teams interested in Donovan McNabb. There have been multiple reports that McNabb wants to play for the Vikes, but to this point no indications the feeling was mutual. According to the Post, "none of the teams" interested in McNabb will be willing to trade much for the 34-year-old because the Skins already "tipped their hand" that he has no future in D.C. Ideally, McNabb would restructure his contract, giving Washington a better chance to secure a mid- to late-round pick.
bucketmouth64
Anyone see Jon Gruden do a qb coaching interview on espn with Cam Newton? I only saw a segment of it, but it was the part where Gruden asked Newton to call any play as if he was in a huddle. Gruden gave him an example of what an nfl and some college programs call would sound like. Newton was at a complete loss for words. He couldn't call one because the program he was in called out numbers like 36 and that was it. He even admitted to Gruden that he got him and he didn't know what to say. If I were a scout that speaks volumes about Newton's football acumen. I think he would be a head case trying to learn the verbage and that would be a big setback in his development. He may have the physical skills, but he might not have the brain cells to put it all together. I wonder if Auburn had to do that to make it simple for Newton or if that's their normal offensive calls.
Northlander
I would pass on Newton.
soldoncass
I'm seeing some "danger" flags this year, when I think about all the teams NEEDING A QB. They are easier to predict, I think than the teams that have their franchise QB.....for now, but at what point do they say it's time to get our FUTURE QB. They like a guy that should be available in the middle rounds, but needs several years of development.....just enough time to be ready when Brady/ Manning retire. Especially dangerous when they have lots of draft picks so they can get whoever they want by moving up.....snake in the grass. I know NE has worked out a couple.....If we have a chance to get "our guy" at #12, we better RUN TO THE PODIUM.
Scott K
I still think this guy has potential! I think the Vikings most realistic options will be Kaepernick, Vince Young, or McNabb. Personally, I would let McNabb, roll away in his wheel chair, and go young, no pun intended. And like I have said before, REALISTIC OPTION, not who I think would be best.Quote:Trainer Chip Smith, who has worked with top-shelf players for 20 years, believes Nevada's Colin Kaepernick is a better athlete than Cam Newton.Smith has spent quite a bit of time with both players. "Colin is actually a little bit better athletically," said Smith. "He's a little faster -- I've clocked him as low as a 4.4 -- and there isn't a quarterback in this draft who throws the ball with the velocity that Colin does. Colin is a better athlete, and he understands the game better ... Of the 56 quarterbacks I've worked with, Colin is the most prepared for the NFL." zepman
He's a run first qb...has been his whole career. Great kid...saw him on Gruden's QB camp and very likeable.I'd take Koepernick or Dalton over him at this point.
Scott K
He may have been coached into being a run first. He does have a great arm, that is the one key element needed for a passing QB.
koonie
Lets start this up again. Picking Amukamara would enable Cedric Griffin to move to safety supposedly. What's everybody think? Picking Prince in the first would be fantastic. I'm praying he slips to us. koonie
Actually I'd like to see the Vikes upgrade the oline, dline, and safety position. We take our lumps this year and go all in on a qb next year. Doesn't matter who the qb is now. With the line playing like it did this year it won't matter who's tossing the rock.
soldoncass
I DISLIKE Koepernick, way to long a delivery, 1/2 his passes will get knocked down at the line, 1/2 of the rest will be defensed or picked off. He has never been mentioned, for the Vikes ,as a work-out or interview. At the combine Spielman said 1 QB "brushed them off", this lack of buzz on him makes me suspect the Koep. we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted April 20, 2011 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted April 20, 2011 add a CB to that list of needs and I'm with YOU Koonie.
koonie
add a CB to that list of needs and I'm with YOU Koonie. I think Prince would do wonders for our secondary. In turn I think it would also help our linebackers and dline as well. Prince in the first and Marvin Austin in the second.
zepman
Had Cook panned out like they thought he would, a corner would/should not be an issue in this years draft. If Prince is on the board...they almost have to take him.
creepworm
Asomugha in free agency. Then we can begin to take care of our other problems through the draft.
soldoncass
All the knee injuries to cbs destroyed out secondary. They almost have to take one somewhere. Sherels is an unknown quantity and Asher Allen is a nickel at best. Then we don't know how the knee injuries will affect Griffen and Cook. Tie that to POOR safety play.....only 1 quality WR , it's a wonder we won 6.
klecker
If Rice decides to go somewhere else, they don’t sign a free agent worth a darn. What free agent is going to sign with the Queens? The current QB's on the roster are going to fail miserably. The roster is full of second and third string WR's.Stack the box, but the best CR on Harvin and blitz all day. The other CR's shouldn't have much trouble in man all day.
Scott K
Rice will be playing for the Vikes next year. Just because we didnt get it settled before the lock out, doesnt mean it wont happen.
klecker
Never said (meant) before the lock out. Once he and his agent can test the waters and see what other teams can or will give him, he may be gone. If he goes to another team what will the Vikes have for WR. The Vikings need to open the pocket book for either Rice or a FA. If they don’t its going to be a very big weakness for the team. Depending on whom the QB's have as an option to chuck the ball to will limit the signing of a bridge FA or severely hinder the growth process of one of their young QB's. Scott K
Unfortunately, I think McNabb will be our old QB on our team next year. I dont like it, but, I think it will happen.
klecker
Might be better to have him get beat up than on of the young guys. Atleast for now.
