Someone needs to invent...

I've said it before and I am saying it again: somebody should come up with a heater that is incorporated into the transducer float so that it keeps your hole from freezing up. It would run off the flasher battery. If you know of something like this that is already for sale, let me know.

Thoughts?

I think someone should invent, or make, an ice house heater that would look like a small gas fireplace insert. cool

northern Tool has vent free gas fireplaces that would look good in a fish house but the down side is the cost and the fact that it is a 23000 BTU unit. It would be overkill in the heat output area.

I use a few of these hooked up to the wind generator...

Low Voltage Electric Hot Water Heater Elements

12 volt - 24 volt - and - 48 volt

Submersible electric hot water heater elements -

The 12 volt water heater market for RV's, boating, surfing,

Don't ever have a closed hole, don't need battery power to run it with the wind gen.

Also have a clean water only one (we bring a 5 gallon igloo water cooler, for washing hands face etc. nice to have HOT water on demand.

I have looked at the SM The Heat Pump, but that is just one more thing to pack and/or loose down the hole. Just thought it would be easier to come up with something that would work with the transducer float. If I come up with something, I will let you all know.

That ice quiver looks intriguing. At only $10 a pop it's worth a try. I personally don't do much hole hoping outside but a big part of that is I'm sick of my holes always freezing over and messing up my line.

I am going to buy one of these things and try it out.

I think someone needs to invent an ice tackle box that is big enough to hold 300$ worth of jigs and 500$ worth of spoons, playing musical tackle boxes is a pain when it gets close to dark time.

if u have the need for 800$ worth of ice tackle. u spend way to much time changing bait and not enough time fishing.

Just do like I do and pour a little of your vodka in the hole to keep it open.
I wonder if the fish would bite better after a little vodka. Many people can't keep thier mouth shut after a little vodka, might be the cure for fish with lock jaw.

What you need is the Edge. wink It floats in the water a vibrates. Only cost 10 bucks. I don't own one so can't tell you if it works or not. I just found it on gander mountains HSOforum today and immediately thought of this post.

Here is a link if you want to know more about it.

Go for it! That's the great thing about living in America. You can live your dream. Do it before someone else does. It won't get done because you wish for it.

    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
