Shhhhhhh.....Pheasant Opener is a couple of days away

Recommended Posts

400,000 pheasant hunters in Minnesota.

On the SW forum just as many birds down there as last year.

The west central..From Fergus to Alex to Monte is the best in years.

Shhhhhhh.

Hutch and Glenco have their share. Waseca, Fairibolt ..birds.

Here's hoping that it is this quiet on some of the public ground out west.

Good luck and shoot straight.

IC in my under barrel, Modified in my over. Most guys will suggest you use Modified as a general rule, factors can change what choke you use, like time of the season you are hunting, if you have a pointer or a flusher, if your hunting wild birds or game farm birds, shot size, etc.

I am pumped for opener, even though I can't get out since its our anniversary and not worth the argument.

I hunt some CRP land and its not worth it until all the surrounding corn is gone anyway.

I use either an IC or Mod choke, depending on what I am doing and the type of shells I am using.

Good luck to everybody that gets out! Be safe to the hunters and dogs!

This is disappointing. Found out today that I have to work this weekend. If anyone is going to be in the Chamberlain area of SD and sees a person out in the field soil sampling this weekend with tears in their eyes, feel free to stop by and say hi.

Lets all remeber as we go out this weekend to be safe and always ask permission. I have a friend that is a dnr agent in southwest Mn and he said that they have already talked to plenty of farmers that are willing to give permission to hunt.

The corn is slowly going out with all of the wet weather we had down here. I haven't seen much for numbers this summer which is a little disheartening, but I did hear a rooster tonight while I was out fishing. HAHA... Fish or Hunt..... decisions!

They are there mr_jman they are there. Saw fourteen roosters on my way to work Monday morning. Seven roosters in one bunch and four in another plus three singles. The corn is coming out in the Worthington area and there are some roosters that are going to get the hurt put on them in the very near future.

The real pheasant opener isn't until all the crops are out wink

Im excited for pheasant hunting but in all reality, I do not even hunt until all the crops are out!

I love it when I read posts like this!!! Less competition!!! In the meantime I'll be out every evening shooting roosters that fly out of that corn into the grass!!! Can't cover enough ground in that last half hour!!!

I'll be out in SoDak for the opener, SW of Aberdeen. Can't wait!!! Hunt pheas all afternoon, drink beer and play cribbage half the night, and wake up the next day and to it again!! Cleaned out the truck last night, kept adding to my piles of clothes and gear, I'm pumped!!!

I may be at work but my mind is heading west!!!

Apparently some people thought it opened last weekend. While at the local watering hole last night, I overheard a conversation about some guys that had gone out last weekend near Benson and shot 8 on private land. They called this guy to brag about how they did, and he said its not even open yet.

Are people that stupid that they didnt realize NO ONE else was out there competing for spots? I mean, Benson is heavily hunted and not seeing other pheasant hunters would be next to impossible.

If you remember down the road, wanna let me know when the corn is gone out of Worthington???

pureinsanity, by tomorrow opening, over half the corn around Worthington will be hitting the bins. Still good amount of it out there, but they are putting the hurt to the crop hard and heavy.

It's going fast. Don't need it all out. Just around the immediate area you are hunting. There's going to be some fine hunting this weekend. Good luck to everyone.

I never go opener, its always a zoo on public. I have a few public spots around the metro area, But I like to save that for winter. Typically I don't even start pheasant hunting until the deer hunting opens. That is the best time IMO to pheasant hunt. Everyone and their brother has buck fever and usually hunts private land. that leaves endless opportunities for me

I'm debating whether I should go or not. For what it would cost to drive out to my favorite spots in Western MN, I could drive 2 miles to the local gun club and shoot 6 birds for the same money. Plenty of wild birds on the land also. wink

Pureinsanity...you must be purely insane! wink You are missing out on a full month of pheasant hunting if that is truly how long you wait to hunt pheasants!! By then, the public land birds are skittish (whats left of them anyways)! Get while the gettin is good man!! Luckily i hunt hundreds of acres of private land so i don't have to worry about the public stuff, but still, i don't understand why you wouldn't want to go out on opener other than the tons of people i guess??

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
