OK, so he got kneed in the head pretty good and suffered a concussion. Why is it taking so long for him to come back from this? Baseball is not a contact sport, shouldn't he have been able to come back a few days later? How is his concussion any different than a QB's when they get their skull cracked, and are out on the very next play only to get hit again? Maybe I'm missing something, what exactly is wrong with him?

Baseball not a contact sport? If I remember right the injury occurred when he took a knee to the head while wearing a bating helmet. I think baseball qualifies as a contact sport. If you ever have had a concussion or know someone who has had one they just don't go away. Headaches can linger for weeks afterwards and you get that feeling of being "Just a little off" Having that feeling is not one you want to have when standing at the plate having your head buzzed by 95 mile an hour fast balls. Also the timing these guys need to have when swinging the bat needs to be there. Where hitting something 3 out of 10 times is good you better be able to think clear, see clear and not be a tad off. One of my sons suffered a concussion and it did take a while before the nagging headache went away and even longer for his balance to return.

I think the Twins and all sports in the past several years are taking a more patient approach in getting players back in the line up after all the recent research done into concussions. Twins have a lot of money tied up and don't want to rush him back only to lose him for the rest of the season or worse. I don't think there is any doubt that he wants to play, sounds like a stint in the minors for some game pitching and he will be back up here soon.

Seriously? He's got a BRAIN INJURY. There's no timetable for a return from something like that. I can't believe anyone would even question why he's not sucking it up and playing through it. Jeez you guys are harsh.

As mentioned above, a lot of times you don't even know you've had a concussion. People believe you have to be knocked out to have a concussion but that's not the case. A concussion is a brain injury and it's caused by the brain actually slapping the inside of the skull which results in bruising and or nerve damage.

I had my career shortened by concussions and it's not just a case of one concussion plus another equals two. It's an exponential effect in that each time is a lot worse than the previous one. Each person heals differently than the other one depending on the severity of the injury and of course the number of previous injuries. Justin is by no means sand bagging this and will return when he is able to play at the level that is necessary to play the game.
