I'm going to be chilling in my backyard having a bbq, maybe a bonfire and some premiums. Too crazy for me on opener to even bother. Maybe I will walk down to the 'sippi and cast a rapala but my boat won't touch the water on that weekend.

deadeye,

I agree with you. to many people out there. I just plan to go during the week when everyone else is at work. If I do go out that weekend I will probably just go to the mississippi river to see if I can catch some eyes or cats from shore. Most of my eye fishing is done up on mille lacs on the west side. Right now I am into wanting to catch cats more then walleyes. there is nothing better than a smoked catfish. I also need to hook into some nice cats so I can move up in the standings of the king of cats contest.

Brad,

How do you keep those cats lit?

I just made midweek reservations at one of the state parks near ML, MTW home thursday. Shopping tents now as I have everything for camping but the tent. Two of us in the back of the Crew gets prety cozy, so I need more space. If I was going alone it is fine. Good luck in the KOTC lottery.

Deadeye that sounds like a good plan and I use to hate going out on opener but actually enjoy it now...just have to find some of those lakes that don't get a ton of people like a Red, Leech or Mille Lacs. But I am excited for opener gonna get to fish in a boat that has lights so we can actually fish after dark!

Ya I used to be a fiend about fishing on opener. I have got less and less tolerate of crowds and what comes with them though.

I like to take it easy and relax when I go fishing so I wait a week or so to start hitting the lakes. It seems like after that it slows down enough to be reasonable.

If i decide to leave the safety and comfort of the back patio grin, its a 3 block walk to the river and I can usually manage to catch a couple eyes (plus a bunch of other stuff). Its nice because usually its pretty quiet there, no boat landings to wait at, no lures bouncing off my boat, no lines being crossed and no belligerent people to deal with. grin its a little bit of peace in the rat race.

Jeez Dead where do you fish?? I've never had that done to me on opener or fishing period but then I don't fish south of St. Cloud if I can't help it and stay away from the well known lakes when you know its going to be a zoo.

I used to enjoy going to Mille Lacs for opener when I was a boy. We would get stuck in traffic most of the way up because of the stop light in Princton (I think that is where it was). As kids, we couldn't care less about the hassle. Dad would drive and we would goof off the entire drive. Good memories.

Now that I'm the one driving and pulling the boat, I wait until everybody comes home, then it's my turn. Besides, there are to many drunks on opener.

I admit that I always feel a little left out though. Exciting to see all those boats heading north.

I do have a new tradition, we go to Culver's for walleye. Not the same, but not bad either.
