Sonar Screen Cleaning

Vinegar is one of the great ones. Does a whole bunch of stuff. Cleaning the boat is one of the biggies. My boat gets plenty of use and had the grime to show it. I wiped it down at the end of the year with a pretty stiff vinegar to water solution and it cleaned up better then any soap I have used. Very cheap and works wonders. It is also the best sanitizer, use it to clean your fish cleaning equipment, after you wash it. It's cheap and can be used on food equipment too.

I keep a bottle of I believe it's endust electronic screen cleaner and a soft rag in the boat. Works awesome. I buy it in my local grocery store. Cleaning products isle and if the same as last year, comes in a blue aeresol can. I think you can also get them in pre-saturated sheets in the plastic can. Similar to armor all wipes.

I use pre-moistened lens cleaners that come in small packages that you can buy at most stores that are for cleaning your glasses.

They don't scratch the lens which is important.

They usually come in boxes containing 30-60 etc. So I throw some in my tackle box and use them on my locator and my glasses after a wet boat ride and my glasses are wet from boat spray.

They state on the package that they are "Anti-fog, Anti-static"

Wouldn't use anything else! grin

I alweays put a screen saver on all of my electronics for the boat. If they do get scratched up, take a very soft cloth and wipe the screen down with toothpaste.

I had an H20 that was scratched very bad and when I was done cleaning the screen, it looked as good as new.

One word of warning:

When spraying on bug spray in the boat in the evening. Be sure no overspray hits your LCD screens. This happened in my boat and I didn't catch it until the next time out. It permanently left little spray marks all over the screen.

For what it's worth - Vinager is very acidic, that's the "active" agent. +1 for spray bottle with viniger and water mix - it works on sonar screens, hull, wave wackers, motor cowl etc. Works as well (or better) than anything you can buy from a store. Paul

Get a pack of Windex wipes. They are all pre-moisened towels folded up, packs neat, and don't have to worry about anything spilling over all the time. I keep them in the boat for my sunglasses, screens, and just about anything that needs to be wiped down. Sea goers swear by them since they are constantly cleaning the salt spray.

I agree, a 1/3 white vinegar to water dilution is safe and works wonders on sonar screens and displays.

This is also the real deal for removing water spots on the boat and de-funking the livewell. Handy to have around in the boat for sure.

I'd go with the vinegar/water solution, too. This is right off the HB HSOforum:

What products can be used to clean my display?

Humminbird recommends using Windex® Vinegar Multi Surface(in the spray bottle). Do NOT use any wipes products (which can also be available as the brand name Windex Multi-Task).

The lens contains a special coating which improves visibility. It is recommend to use the above cleaner because we have tested and proved this cleaner. It does not deteriorate the coatings on the lens.

FYI - same company that owns Humminbird owns Windex. Still though, it would be a good product to use.
